Invite Wording for the date

Hi everyone!  I think I have only posted a couple of times, but I am using DIY invitations from Target.  They have a really pretty scroll design at the top, but it is so large that I only have just under 5" of paper space to fit the wording of the invitation.  So to be able to fit the address of the church and the rsvp date, this is how I worded it.

Please Reply by June 26, 2010

Does this seem totally wrong to not write out the dates?  I have already decided to make separate reception and reply cards because of the limited amount of space.  Please let me know what you think!  Thanks in advance!!

Re: Invite Wording for the date

  • I think you can do either, but usually you do write them out. Did it come with a template, or did you have to figure out the margins, etc yourself. We did DIY invites from Wal-Mart and we were able to download the zip files from the manufacturers website so we could type what we wanted within the correct margins/borders. I would look on the package and see if you can find anything like that on there to help you with this.

And, I wouldn't probably put "please reply by June 26" on the actual invitation, that is what the rsvp/reply cards are for. That might help save you a line that you could write the date out. HTH
  • Since you're including response cards, you don't need the line about responding at the bottom.

That would give you an extra line and then you could write out the date. I don't think the date style you've used is horrible, but since you have the extra line now anyway, I'd go ahead and do it the traditional way.

Traditional invitations also don't normally have the street address --- just the city and state. So if you're including directions cards, you can eliminate the street address, though I would keep it if you're not sending directions cards.

  • awesome!!  thanks for the help!

Bolded text is what I changed; spell out the date, the street and the state. Put your reply text on the reply card, reception text on the reception card.

  • How formal is your wedding? For a more informal one, staying with digits vs. spelled out words for date is o.k. If you are having white tie, then spell them out.

    Good luchk!
