Trash the dress anyone???

So I was wondering if any of you thought about doing a trash the dress session after the wedding? I have been tossing this idea back and fourth for a while now. I thought about using my original wedding dress then I thought about buying another dress that has been used for about 50 or 60 bucks and use that dress instead.Who knows what I will do lol I will figure it out sooner or later...

  • I doubt we will, with moving and everything.  It'd be really fun though.  I have no intention of keeping my dress and I feel like selling it would be really hard since I'm already the second owner.

If we get any free time and extra money to afford a photographer to do that, I would love it though.  Those shoots always seem to turn out really well.

  • I spent way too much on my dress to trash it.  I'm hoping to sell it after the wedding.

Same although I don't think I'll sell it I'm considering preserving it if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
  • I definitely won't be doing a trash the dress session.... I don't really get the whole idea of it.

I know that I wont sell or store my dress. I also got my dress on a really good sale which came in way under budget... I figured it just something fun that I could do as my last time wearing the dress and another opportunity to get some cool photos too...

I'm probably going to try and sell it, but if that doesn't work then I'll try and find a place to donate it.

  • I"ve never heard of this. What exactly does this entail?

From what I can imagine, I can't say that it is something that I will do. I'm not entirely sure what I plan on doing with my dress afterwards. The kits from DB and Alfred Angelo are almost $200 (though I can get $60 off mine at AA).

I'll probably wait and see until then, but right now I just can't spend the money on it. I'm sure it'll be fine to wait until after the wedding to decide.

  • I won't be doing one, but a girl on my local board did and it was for an incredibly good reason :-P

Her dress literally got 'trashed' while her photographer was taking artistic pics of it on the actual day. A bunch of berries flew off a tree and stained her dress, so thanks to needing to take it to a dry cleaner she and her H didn't really get any pictures of them together on the actual day. That's how I can justify a Rock/Trash The Dress session :-)

This. I really splurged on my dress and the thought of trashing it makes me cringe! If I wanted to do it, I would do the idea of buying a cheap used one. But I have little interest in doing it.

  • I don't understand why this is such a trend. I am not doing it although I don't know of I'll keep it or sell it. I know I have to have alterations done (the boning in it has to be extended) so I don't really know if I will be able to sell it. We will see though.
  • Possibly thinking of doing the ocean pics some do since our wedding is in Costa Rica but I haven't decided yet.

  • I am. Wedding dresses don't hold their value, I do not want to saddle my children with the guilt of my dress, if they'd even fit in it/if we have daughters.

My horse (the one in my siggy) has done 2 TTD sessions with brides, so I want to have my own TTD with her.

  • You don't actually have to "trash" your dress to do it. I have seen people do a "dress revisited" shoot. They are gorgeous photos of you and then you and your groom that are gorgeous portrait shots.

Yes, some people do take their dresses swimming or throw paint on them, but others simply dress up with non-typical accessories in non-typical settings. Kind of just a way to get one more use out of a dress most people (including me) spent way too much on.

I might do one, would definitely like to get some pictures of me and my horses :) I plan on saving pieces of my dress, but not the whole thing.

  • At first I wanted to sell my dress but I think I might hold onto it. I imagine things like I see on pinterest, having kids in the future and sitting your daughter in it when she's like 5 or 6 just as a super cute picture.

  • I think TTD shoots, are neat. I however, know its'not for me. I am hoping to preserve my dress so that my daughter may use it, (Her choice) or it can be used for the material for baptism outfits for any future grandchildren.
