If you could change one thing

If you could go back to the beginning of wedding planning and do one thing differently what would it be?

Re: If you could change one thing

• Good question! I would have just bought invitations instead of trying to DIY or never mentioned DIY invites to my parents. I designed them myself and spent many, many hours perfecting my design and making pocketfolds and then my parents wanted me to use their friend who works for a printing company and the printing process has taken months and will cost me more than just buying invites from a place like wedding paper divas. Now I'm stressed over the time and money involved in our invitations and I'm not sure if I can get them mailed by June 7 like I had planned.

• I never would have planned (and subsequently cancelled) my New Jersey wedding and I would have kept it where I live from the start.  When I think about what an enormous waste of time and money it was, I am dumbfounded.

I also would have waited to buy a dress.  It's not "the one," but it will do.

Totally agree!!  I was just telling my future parents in law this past weekend (after a disagreement about the rehearsal dinner) that if I would have know what all of this would have entailed we TOTALLY would have just gone to the courthouse and made it official. FI agrees...  haha!

• I would have spent less time stressing right after we got engaged and just enjoyed that time together. And politely turned down a friend making our cake and just went to a baker. It is a major stress for me!

Had the wedding at a different venue.  Adventure Aquarium!  Ooooohhhh.

I loved the venue, but it was out of our budget... or so I thought.  My mom fell in love with a room and we're booked in a venue/room with a min head count which is costing us the same as the aquarium would have been!
• I would have eloped too!  My mom originally suggested it and offered to pay but we opted to do it at home..."great idea"...lol  :0 )
• omg i love the adventure aquarium! i looked there too for our wedding but we decided it was too far from us.

• 100% would have gone with a different photographer!! FI just wanted to book it and get it out of the way, but I wanted to go with somebody out of Boston. Now I'll never know what the other photographer could have done :(

• I would have done more research for cheaper invites and had engagement pictures taken.  I am jealous of everyone else's engagement pics when I look at their bios

• eloped.. and it may still happen. im SO done.. and so is FI. I was just telling my mom if i would have known it was going to be this miserable planning a wedding, i would have never brought up marriage to FI. i would have just dated him forever. SOOOO.. unless something majorly good happens soon regarding the wedding, we're for sure eloping.

totally agreed! i could not for the life of me convince FI to do e-pics! he hated the ones his brother and wife did and i couldn't talk him into having them at all. i really wish we had them

• I would have had my wedding on New Years eve. :)
• I would have eloped too!! There has just been entirely too much drama.  I would have gone somewhere tropical and married my FI on a beach just the two of us.

• Spent more money on more dresses and eloped.
I tried to convince FI we should get married on our holiday to Japan, but he said his family would be disappointed.  It sucks planning for his family, since most of mine can't make it.
Why didn't we just ELOPE!!!!

• I would have been more strict with the guest list...its way bigger than I wanted it to be.  I also would have chosen a different photographer.  It's not that I don't like the one we chose, but it was at the beginning of our planning and we sort of booked the first people we met with.

I  cant think of anything.  I love it all.
we are spending too much money, but I wouldnt change it.  I would pick up some more shifts at work to help cover it.
• I don't know. I knew how much work this all would be because it's my second time. I also want to be an event coordinator in the future, so I really want to have a great wedding that shows off my skills at planning.

I would probably go with the invitation thing as well. Hand wrote all my envelopes and Save The Dates, and spent many hours painting my invites. I don't know if that was all a very good use of my time...

• i would've gotten e-pics also. fi hates posing for photos--he didn't think it was automatic that we would have a photog at the wedding!
• maddie7maddie7 member

Dieted earlier and hired a trainer earlier, had it at my uncles house in Bermuda

• I wouldn't have sent save the dates.  I'm really not stressing about things.  I just need to make so many decisions in the next two months lol.  Maybe making more decisions in the previous months would have lessened the work.
• Wish we could have started saving money beforehand.  Budget, what?  We thought we could do things within our projected budget, but we blew that out of the water with booking the venue, food & ceremony site.

Oh, and eloped.  No stress.  Not that my wedding is that stressful, it just would be nice to go away, get married, take a vacation and come back and party.
I would have tried on more than 3 dresses.  I sometimes wonder if, had I tried on more, I would have found one I liked better. And, even before trying on more dresses, I would change the wedding date to sometime in May or June.
Posted by FutureMrsMcDaniel
Me too!!!  I too only tried on 3 and now I can't help wishing I'd held off and tried on more.  Also, we're getting married over the 4th of July weekend and I keep feeling guilty about guest having to travel to Mexico for my wedding.  Plus it turns out they have elections that weekend and they impose dry law starting the night before so my guys dream of a wild tequila filled reception may be in jeopardy.) And maybe the venue mainly because I keep worrying about the size not being enough for the number of guest. ..... OK, i'm going to stop because I keep thinking of a lot more. :)
