AW Thursday

Re: AW Thursday

• And I actually have an AW!

That quilt for Jeremy that I thought I wasn't going to have time to make? I forced myself to go ahead and make it, and it looks awesome :) Granted, I got 3 hrs of sleep last night, but it's worth it. He is going to love it- but be mad that I bought him a $100 gift bc I told him I wasn't making it...oops.

• We did Thanksgiving with H's family, and Christmas with them last weekend. Tomorrow we're driving up to Ponca City, OK for Christmas at my grandparents. H is technically supposed to work, but they told him to go on out, just be ready to leave if necessary. Prayers that he can stay with us. =)

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: AW Thursday : Our schedule involves too much driving for my taste- but with my reliable car I don't mind as much. I'm driving to WF after work this afternoon so I can drop my car at the dealership in the morning to get detailed and plates put on, tomorrow night we're doing a trolley around town to look at Christmas lights with Jeremy's whole extended family. Tomorrow night we're driving back to Denton, doing Christmas Eve with my family- Sherlock Holmes in the morning, laziness, then It's a Wonderful Life (we watch it eeeeeeeevery year), one gift, and then doing stockings and gifts super early the next morning to get back on the road and back to WF by noon. Christmas with Jeremy's immediate family at noon, then extended family Christmas/dinner starts at 4. Lots and lots of back and forth for me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have another freak Christmas blizzard like 2 years ago.

I just watched the steak episode, and now I'm watching the one where she and Bev end up working together. I'd like to go to her restaurant just to complain.

She reminds me of that obnoxious chef from the 214 restaraunt at Palomar -- the one who had her own show?

I am very jealous of everyone's relatively 'short' drives for Christmas!! I am mentally preparing myself for 13 hours in the car this afternoon/evening/tomorrow early morning. J better be planning an amazeballs playlist on Spotify to appease his chauffeur which better include NKOTBSB and Glee Christmas tunes. Maybe a little Johnny Mathis too :)

Haha professorscience!! Let's see if this works?

ETA: I see where I quoted, but didn't get the pretty little blue box, ugh!

[QUOTE]So here's a legit question: What is everyone doing for the holidays? Unmarrieds, have you and FI worked out a schedule yet?

I need a glass of wine for this one...DH and I have already spent 3 holidays as a couple, and have done the same thing each year. So this year, the first actually being married, shouldn't be that different, right?

First, let me set the stage. We both have divorced parents so we have four families to deal with. And while it's great, they all live here, it's also a pain in the a**. On top of that, my DH is divorced and has a son, so we also split time with his ex (thank goodness she's awesome).

So the past three years we have spent Christmas Eve with his mom and her husbands extended family. Christmas morning we wake up and go to my mom's (everything about holidays with my mom rocks, she's Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart combined). Then we go pick up his son and go back to my mom's for an early dinner. DH's dad is awesome and easy, so sometimes he comes to my mom's for dinner, other years we've gone to his house that night, or he's come to our house. My dad has a ranch in OK, so he's usually up there. We leave early the day after Christmas each year to go up to the ranch, it's what keeps us sane through the holidays knowing we are headed up there, and we take the little guy with us.

So, last year, by the time we got the little one, he had already had his share of present opening with his mom and all of her family, so he was kinda done with Christmas by the time we finally did ours late afternoon, and that doesn't give the DH warm fuzzies. He's all about creating a tradition that his son will remember with the three of us.

SO...he made the decision this year that Christmas Eve was going to be our time, and our tradition. Just the three of us, as a family. Decorating cookies, cooking, presents, etc. Then, when we picked up his son Christmas day, we are coming back to our house, and telling all of our parents, you can all come over to our house anytime after 3. We'll have food, etc, just come as you please. But, what that means is that we're skipping his mom's family's Christmas Eve tradition, and she's BEYOND upset.

So we're the scrooges this Christmas season!!!
• Kylie,

Even though it sucks that your relatives are mad, I think that's exactly what you need to do sometimes, especially once kids get added to the equation. It's not about making sure you make an appearance at every house, it's about making the right decisions for your family.

Except that I haven't seen my grandparents in forever (they didn't even come to our wedding), I almost told my parents, "You know what, H is on call Christmas weekend. I'm just going to drive up there and spend Christmas with my husband. Maybe we can all meet up in OKC for dinner on Christmas Eve."

Kathleen- Jeremy WISHES I was moving to WF. But I'm going nowhere until I get a real job. Ha.

Wendi- I hope so! Especially since in my super sleep-deprived state I stabbed mysellf about a hundred times with straight pins while trying to piece the thing together... literally. Also, I just tried to accept your friend request via text with "Add!" and it bounced back... too excited, I suppose :-P

Courtski- 13 hours?! Holy geez, I take back my complaints.

Hells yeah, jump in! Courtski only stops to get gas and potty...hope you can hang with those rules, we've got a schedule to keep!
Kristan--I am so used to long drives....we would drive from St. Louis to Maine every summer when my sister and I were little--3 days in the car! We were bred to be road warriors. J is having some difficulty adjusting, but is getting better with each trip.
• We rotate holidays every year. One year we spend Thanksgiving with his family, Christmas Eve/Day with my family, and then we go out to Lubbock to do a late Christmas with his parents. The other year we do the exact opposite. There is far too much driving involved trying to do it any other way since his parents are in Lubbock.

• Amanda, I totally agree, and am fairly disappointed with his mom for being selfish and not understanding what we're trying to do here. But no, she's more worried that her grandson won't have the memories or traditions from her extended family. WTF. Hate to be selfish, but I will be here, it's about us and the kid. Then the grandparents. And sadly, extended step relatives are not high on my priority list! Funny thing is, no one else threw a fit. And what's sad is DH is already not his mom's biggest fan, and she just drew a big wedge in the sand. @Kristan...so jealous of your crafty abilities! You go girl!!! We should be sitting on the patio at Esparza's enjoying a margarita having these conversations!

Courtski- I bet you have a bladder of steel. I am truly envious!! But my road rage gets baaaaaad- Dallas to WF is about all I can handle. 13 hours and I'd probably be one of those crazies that follows people, cuts them off, and tries to throw things at them from my car. Heh.

Kylie- Thanks! I taught myself to use the sewing machine this year, and it has definitely been the most useful skill I've acquired in a while.

ETA: Margaritas?? Yes please!

my alcohol beacon went off. margaritas? missed you ladies on Tuesday.

I have been head:desk all week at work. people are just idiots and I have no time to deal with it and make up for their incompetence.

On another note- my aunt's dog has bone cancer. While as a fur-kid owner, this does make me sad, my entire OOT family is now trying to cater to her for Christmas which means cancelling visiting FI's and mine's house and cancelling our dinner I had planned for all of us out. She lives in Southlake- not too far from me. Tell me how a dog having bone cancer cancels plans? Not to sound like a b!tch bc again, this does make me sad, but I have spent all this time planning for Christmas and the LAST thing I want to do is be all sad and walking on eggshells. The dog is still alive- enjoy it. Plus- this is your kid's second Christmas- enjoy that too.

I am usually a pessimist but this one really makes me say "wtf- really?"

I need to catch up on all the drama- peeps be cray cray.
