Do you eat more now that you're married?

Re: Do you eat more now that you're married?

  • Yes, I definitely eat more living with FI than when I lived alone.  I also had the problem of FI bringing home chips and cookies and stuff that I didn't need to eat, but then I'd eat them anyway.  I'd never buy those things and eat them myself, but since they were there I did.

But then we went on WW together.

  • I can't drink diet sodas, so I will have a regular Coke sometimes, but not often. If he gets on a roll, he can drink a 2 liter in a day.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I thinks its perfectly natural and ok to gain a bit.. I think it happens to most people. I gained about 20 pounds over the first year FI and I lived together- some of that may have been because I was working overnights at a tv station and eating at weird hours.

For the wedding- I lost about 25 and he lost 30. So far we've each kept all but a couple pounds off. So marriage hasn't changed our new habits (those gained during engagement) but we've lived together a long time now.

I wouldnt worry OP.. give it some time so you can adjust appropriately and just be aware of what you are eating.

[QUOTE]I've never understood the appeal of M Dew.  It's always tasted like piss to me.  And it is absolutely the worst soda to drink in terms of dental health.  I'm in the dental field and have some seen what Dew has done to people.  Of course, those are the people that are drinking a couple of 2 liters every damn day.  But it happens.  Gross.

That is gross. My teeth hurt just thinking about it.

  • Is it Mountain Dew or Coke that's closest to battery acid on that scale in the dentist's office?

I've actually heard that lots of sports drinks, like Powerade or Gatorade, are worse for your teeth than anything.

  • I never understood the Dew craze either.

I remember back in HS, there was the urban legend about Dew reducing male sperm count. A guy in my grade walked into U.S. History with a jug of Mt. Dew, and I said "Wow, that's like birth control in a bottle!" and everyone died laughing. Then news broke that it was a myth and I felt like a retard.

This is absolutely true. If we give it to our athletes, we water down the mix so it is very weak for this reason.

  • I know sports drinks have all the nutrients or electrolites or whatever but seriously, whatever happened to good old fashioned water during a workout?  Especially some of those drinks - they have a ton of calories.  Like yay, congrats on those 300 calories you burned on the treadmill.  Have a 150 calorie sports drink and cut your progress in half.

[QUOTE]Damn.  I wish I could find the photo of the Dew mouth.  The kid was like 18 and his teeth were NUBS.  There was no saving them.  He was getting dentures as a teenager.

That's a lot of Dew.  Sounds more like meth mouth :)  Gross.

  • I use a straw as much as I can for anything I drink with acid in it - Propel in water, Coke, etc.
ANYTHING to keep me away from the dentist. There's an NC drink called SunDrop that's pretty similar to Mountain Dew, and it's referred to as the dentist's friend (as in, keep them in business). It's harsh.

  • I have always thought Mt. Dew was foul, but I was a Diet Coke junkie for a looooong time. I quit drinking soda altogether like 4 months ago.

  • I'm weird.  I love the dentist :)

I dig the new sig too, Missy!  You look happy :)

  • Holy crap, I just looked up 'effects of mountain dew on teeth' in google images and I will NEVER do that again. That was revolting. And yet, I'm still drinking my Dr. Pepper.

I also love the sig, missy!
  • Same way I quit smoking...cold turkey. :)

Actually I started investing in those little travel packets of lemonade and mixed them with bottled water. I wasn't drinking enough water to begin with and that helped me with it. Now I enjoy water just fine without adding anything.

I've heard Diet Coke is the worst to quit!  I've had friends who have gone from drinking it all day to trying to stop - but most of them still have to have at least one.

  • I quit drinking Diet Dr Pepper for about 9 months.  Then I started again when I started my job.  Now I haven't decided if I 'm going to try to quit again or not.  I only drink one a day now though.

  • When I quit DDP, I'd wake up in the middle of the night craving it.  I wish I was making that up.

  • I think I eat less healthily now that I live with FI.  We go out to dinner or order in a lot more than I did when I lived alone.  I think part of that is because when I was cooking for one, I would make a bowl of pasta or a grilled chicken salad or something like that for dinner and be fine.  FI likes to eat a full meal, which to him is a main course and two sides.  Our schedules are so crazy and unpredictable that we usually just cook on Sundays and maybe one other night in the week.

  • That's why I add Propel to my water, to make sure I drink it. I'm getting there... Right now, I'm a Propel packet junkie.

The thing about the Coke is that it DOES help some with my migraines, if I take my triptan with it. And I won't substitute Pepsi. Most diet drinks have aspartame in them (including Crystal Light) and I can't drink that (see first sentence).

Thanks about the picture! It's from this summer, on an amusement park ferris wheel. I was happy, even if J was calling an end to the day (I'd already aggravated my back, gotten a bit of whiplash on an old school rollercoaster, and he figured I'd walked enough in my knee brace.

    Salt, congrats on being smoke-free!
