Bad Luck?

Is it bad luck to use something with your future initials ( I am taking my fiance's last name) BEFORE you are actually married?

I ordered the mini duffle bags with embroidery for all the bridesmaids (and myself) to use on our excursions and the day of, but I am worried that it isnt proper to use it until after I am married.

What do you think?

It's not proper, but I don't think it's bad luck either. Just another reason to avoid monograms like the plague.

I'm not in the least superstitious, so I don't think it's bad luck, but it's not axactly proper either. That said, if I'd already ordered them, I wouldn't worry over it too much. Just use them.

On anything wedding related or correspondance related you should not use your married monogram until after you are married. A monogrammed duffle bag. I don't think anyone will notice, or care - go for it

My best friend got me a travel bag for toiletries, and she had my future initials put on the bag. She had good intentions, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I'm not superstitious, but I'd put my first name on my bag. My initials weren't BLR until after the wedding...it's just weird to me. I have a BLC bag I won't use anymore b/c that's not my initials anymore. I'm weird.

Ditto Rupe. Then again monograms look ridiculous to me regardless of where they are or what they are on.

I ordered myself a new Lands End tote with my new initials on it, but I'm not using it until the day after the wedding. It's most likely going to be used as a carry-on for the honeymoon and also a beach bag!

I had a state examiner at my work a while bakc and he won't be here again until well after the wedding so he had my sign my license with my married name. Also all our co-workers always call me mrs.____ like we are already married. I think its cute and if those little things end our engagement/marriage then it obviously wasn't meant to be. I am not superstious at all

I'm with the non-superstitious; I don't think it's bad luck - but I do think it's kind of bad form. If you saw a cute duffel bag at a thrift shop that had someone else's initials on it would you buy and use it? If so, go for it. It's kind of the same thing, b/c those aren't your initials. I wouldn't really be tempted to use something that had my proper initials on, less yet initials that aren't even mine.

While it's not proper etiquette, this is one of those things that no one really cares about. As long as you aren't using the name on correspondence or whatnot, you're fine.

I had a hanger made from an Etsy seller. "Mrs. Marriedlast" was spelled out, and I have a photo of my dress hanging from it.

I don't like having my monogram on stuff, but I don't think it's a big deal to use it, since you bought it for that purpose. In my mind, this is like the tote bag I use for school. It says DES Architects and Engineers on it. DES gave me a free tote bag at a career faire a few years back. It happens to be a nice tote bag. They didn't hire me, but it doesn't mean I will stop using the bag. Etiquette wise, my architecture bag and your initials are probably not the same thing, but that's how I think about it.

...I'm marrying someone with the same last name as me...Smith. I must have good luck right? Either way, I slap Smith all over everything because I DON'T have to worry, it's pretty cool actually.

No one is going to care, and I don't think it's bad luck. If it IS bad luck, I'm screwed because I doodle my soon to be new last name all over the place. Like, school girl silly doodle haha.

Although the other day I donated $2 to Autism Awareness and put my married name on the little sticker they put up on the wall. But then again, I also put Ned Stark on the other one so.....I'm just lame >.<
