Flower Girls Cannot Drop Flowers

My fiance and I are getting married in the Catholic Church that he grew up going to. They have some pretty strict rules about our wedding day, one of which is that our flower girls cannot drop any flower petals. I have tossed around other ideas about what the flower girls can do, such as simply hold a bouquet....However, I was wondering if anyone has any creative ideas for what the flower girls can hold/do since they can't drop petals. They will both be 6 at the time of the wedding.

Thanks!

My church had the same rule.  I had a pomander made for my FG girl to carry and it was on a pink ribbon.  It looked like this, but in our wedding colors.

You could have them hold a Here Comes the Bride sign or cute stuffed animals like  bears dressed as a bride and groom or carry floral wands etc....

My niece will be 3 when we get married and likely will either carry a basket with flowers in it, or else a pomander.  I have always seen the petal thing as very movie-ish if that makes sense. I don't know what the original purpose was of the flower girl but I have never been to one where they have actually thrown petals. Mostly they just look cute!

My nieces also had pomander balls as well since they weren't able to throw petals.  Even though I had always pictured them throwing petals, I ended up liking the pomander balls.  My nieces had to also carry items (a rosary and a veil separate from my veil) along with their pomander balls.

Our church had the same rule. Our 2 FG's carried mini posey's that were similar to the rest of the bouquets. Pics in bio if you want to see.

Our Church has the same rule. My FG's are carrying pomander. I think that it will be super cute. They match the bridesmaids so it works out well.

They can't at my church, either!  Neither my fiance nor I have nieces or goddaughters yet, so we won't be having flower girls.

I definitely agree that pomanders are an adorable option (although expensive if they're real flowers)... a small nosegay bouquet might make the girls feel all grown up like the bridesmaids, too!

We skipped having children in the wedding party.  But, when I was a little girl, I was a FG, and I just carried a basket of flowers down the aisle.  It was cute and didn't make a mess of the church.

Thanks everyone! I was thinking pomander balls so I think that's what we'll end up going with...I really like the bell idea, too. Decisions, decisons! :)

My church had the same "no dropping petals" rule.

But I still wanted my niece to carry a basket. It was filled with a mix of petals in the colors of the bridemaids and my bouquet, and we tied colored ribbon on the edge.

    She looked adorable!

Which I think is the flower girls main job!

my church has the same rule.

i know it sounds boring, but shes carring a smaller version of the BM bouquets.

I love the idea of the "here comes the bride!" sign!

Pomanders are the perfect solution for this. Kids love those things, just let them play with them a little beforehand so the "swinging it around" novelty wears off by the time the ceremony rolls around.

I have raunchy mad love for you at this moment.

OP - my flower girls are carrying little bouquets.  They are so cute :)  I can't wait for them to see them.  I'm not doing a Catholic wedding, but I just hate the idea of dropping pedals.  It's messy.  I think our girls will feel a tish grown up carrying bouquets like the bridesmaids.

Hi ladies, we have the same rule at my church and our flower girl will carry a basket of long-stemmed roses, and give them out to guests as she goes down the aisle. We're having 11 roses, one for each year my fiance and I have known each other. This will also engage the guests immediately into feeling like they are a part of the ceremony :)

It's not just a Catholic thing...  The "no dropping petals" rule has been showing up in more and more churches lately.  My friend is a secretary at a Protestant church that just adopted this rule because of concerns about liability if someone slips on some petals.

As PPs said, you could use pomander balls, a mini bouquet, etc.  I'm sure it will be just as cute!  :)

    We have to same rules..

Our flower girl will be carrying a flat basket that my mother used in her aunt's wedding as a flower girl. My florist is making an arrangement to set in there, it is a flatter basket so it will be visible when she walks down the isle

I think the "kissing balls" "pompom balls are so played out already. (my opinion of course) Go back to basics with a flower basket, I used them, I cut a small 3 inch styrofoam ball in half, glued the bottom of it to the inside of the basket and fixed it up with artificial red roses, basket was ivory satin. I also added bling in between the roses.
