  It is not possible, as far as I know, in Canada to have a friend do your ceremonies, like in the States.  

  
  

  To be sure, I would contact an officiant, like one at All Season's Weddings, and see what they had to do to become officiants!

  It's pretty much impossible in Ontario and most provinces.  I know Vancouver has a way to do it.  Ontario won't recognize most online ordained friends etc.
  
  My officiant says that a friend can do the ceremony for you with a real officiant present, and he can be minimally involved and sign off on the licence, but you can't not hire an actual officiant.
