  What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  ditto lynda.  If one is your life long BFF and the other wouldn't really be invited if not for the first it makes the most sense, to me, to list your friend first.  If you're equally close to both it doesn't really matter, so alphabetcal seems as good a way as any,

  I am part of a same sex couple, and I would prefer it be addressed to whomever the sender knows better.  Like, if it was from my sister or my high school bestie, I would want my name first. 
  
  If you didn't really know either one of them, and you are inviting them because gramma susie asked you to, then go alphabetically.
