Nevada-Las Vegas

Im coming for a visit!

FI and I will be going to Vegas for the first time this weekend. We will be there for 5 days. My question for you is What is your list of must see/do things while in Vegas??

Thanks!!

Re: Im coming for a visit!

  • Here's a few questions that will help narrow down suggestions:

    1) Do you want to go to any high end restaurants and/or what kind of amount would you want to spend on dinner max?

    2) Do you like musicals, theater, 'adult oriented', comedy, elvis and/or cirque du soleil type shows?

    3) Do you like roller coasters?

    4) Do you like drinking and clubbing?

    5) If you like gambling, do you play table games, and what amounts do you prefer to keep your bets under?

    6) Any interest in outdoors-type sight seeing or helicopter tours?

  • VG has some great questions above.  The main thing that I think EVERYONE needs to see on their first trip to Vegas is the Bellagio fountains.  It's free and the essential Vegas stop.  The hotel itself is beautiful inside, too - the gardens and the blown glass flowers on the ceiling in the lobby specifically.

    Enjoy!
  • Completely agree, the fountains are amazing, I could just watch them for hours. My and fi's list of must dos for when we are there are: fountains, grand canyon, fremont street at night, mob museum and a cirque du soleil show x
  • On my first trip, all I wanted to do was wander through the hotels and casinos. The themes and decor are pretty amazing. At the end of our 4th day we were overloaded, but I'm glad I saw as much as I did.

Ditto Bellagio Fountains. That is something we must see every time.

Wicked Spoon at Cosmopolitan is my favorite buffet. Cirque du Soleil's "O" is my favorite show I've seen out there (so far). Visiting the "old" downtown (Fremont Street) is pretty fun too, and the gambling is cheap!

We often rent a car and get out of the city for a day. Our favorite place is Red Rock Canyon, and it's only about 30-45 minutes away.

  • Great thanks for all the advice! Does anyone know how old you have to be to rent a car in Las Vegas? I have heard you have to be 25 to rent a car. Is this true?
  • You can rent one if you are 21, but you have to pay an extra fee each day if you are not 25.

  • +1 to klminor17, 21 is available from several places but you pay more and often have to take the bs insurance coverage.

Regarding rentals, if possible, I'd recommend Hertz.  You can sign up for their gold club through the end of June for no charge.  The first time you rent as a gold clubber you still have to go to the counter like normal so they can verify your drivers license, but after that you skip the counter entirely, go directly to the car, put your stuff in and leave.  It saves soooo much time, especially in Vegas where the rental car lines are often long.  Last month when we used Hertz for the fisrt time in Vegas we were in the car on the way to the hotel about seven minutes after the bus dropped us off at the rental depot.
