Manor on a Friday -- Route 46 -- Worried about Traffic HELP!!!

Hey ladies!

My wedding is on Labor Day weekend Friday at the Manor. Ceremony begins at 5:30 and our invites say 5. Obviously traffic is a concern but my mom just told me a horror story about her co-worker's wedding being ruined b/c people were 2 hours late on a friday night due to traffic (in PA).

She made me super worried that this will happen to us. Some of our guests will be coming from Brooklyn/NY/Long Island.

I am hoping you ladies will comfort me and tell me it won't be that bad. We are telling people to leave time for traffic, that it's a holiday weekend etc. Still am getting super nervous.

People from this area should know that a Friday on Labor Day weekend is going to involve traffic.   Hopefully people will be smart enough to leave extra time to arrive on time.  Honestly there isn't much you can do other than remind them to leave extra time.

People from the tri-state area will be aware of possible congestion and heavy traffic during a holiday weekend and will plan accordingly, and guests from outside the tri-state area will be staying in hotels near the venue anyway.  The only reason why I would imagine people being two hours late to an event would be due to a bad accident, which you can't plan ahead for.  Don't stress over something you can't control, it'll all be totally fine!  :-)

We went to a Friday night wedding in the summer and traffic on the parkway was rediculous.  We left early and still got there with 15 minutes to spare.  However the hotel shuttle was late and guests were arriving as she was walking down the aisle.  I'm not sure if it was a problem wit hthe hotel or the traffic though.

Ugh I know you guys are right.

My mom is stressing b/c we have a small family and like 20-30 of their friends work in manhatten and are coming from Brooklyn and she said they will not be taking the day off, maybe just leaving a few days early.

I feel stressed on her behalf becaused I want her to feel like we have a lot of people there from their side, too. I know I can't please everyone but my parents have been soooo great and supportive...not demanding a single thing just everything "whatever we want" so I just want them to feel happy.

Try not to worry- wont all the traffic be headed south to the shore? I had a Friday wedding in the summer and everyone was there! Church was 330 and cocktail hour was 630.  Why is your mom making u nuts, esp. this week? Anyone in NJ/NY knows there is traffic! And many people have started "summer hours" leaving early on Fridays.

Friday night traffic on labor day is a disaster. Maybe you could send out personal texts emails calls etc to your guest to give them a heads up about traffic possibilties maybe suggest a nearby lounge or bar if they arrive early...... good luck either way it will be the best day of your life!

I agree... everybody knows to expect traffic on Labor day weekend.. let them plan accordingly. It is not something that you should be stressing about.
However, just curious why you would pick the Friday of Labor Day weekend for your wedding? Especially at 5 or 5:30..

Agreed with PP.  In the tri state area, everyone should realize there will be traffic on a holiday weekend.  Don't stress over it though, you can't completely control it.  Everything will be just fine :)  and, if they're coming from the city etc they'll be coming 46 west...shore traffic etc should be heading 46 and 3 east toward the parkway south so keep that in mind if it makes you feel better :) p.s. I am a Manor bride too!

I'm going to a wedding this Friday (Memorial Day weekend) and we know that we need to leave early to give ourselves extra time due to traffic. My friend also put on her invites that the ceremony starts at 6 when it really starts at 630pm so that people will be there on time. I don't think you need to worry.

Tara- I bet we are going to the same wedding! The bride for the wedding did the same thing. We know we have to head up early.

LOL thanks for those who actually comforted me....gotta say reading that "traffic on a labor day friday is disaster" and "why did you pick that date" isn't exactly making me feel better..........kinda want to cry now, i'm sure that wasn't anyones intention.

We have to do a friday or sunday wedding because we are jewish...we picked the time because it needs be before sunset and since it's all at the same place we are not gonna do a 3pm wedding and require ALL guests to basically take the entire day off. We figured at least if its a holiday weekend people will be getting out of work early anyway/have a 4 day weekend/still have summer fridays.....that was our rationale and i honestly didn't think it would be THAT bad.

Sorry, that wasn't my intention to make you feel bad. I was just wondering why you would purposely pick a Friday night on a holiday weekend and then be concerned about the traffic now.. I would think that was something you would've considered when choosing the date.
Also, on a side note, very few people I know get out of work early on a Friday just because it is a holiday weekend, nor do I, or anybody I know have "summer fridays" or summer hours. Just something to consider that there could be many people that cannot attend because of the timing and traffic. If I needed to attend a wedding that weekend starting at 5pm, I'd have to leave work by at least 3 pm if not earlier, so I could go home and get ready, and get on the road to avoid being late.
Also, wanted to note - that while there might not be "shore traffic" specifically on route 46/near the manor.. it depends where your guests will be coming from. It is very possible there will be holiday traffic on whatever roads they need to take to get to Route 46... and that is uncontrollable.
I have nothing against Friday weddings though.. our wedding ceremony will be at 3pm on a Friday.. I figured whoever can come, will be there. And if they can't, no biggie. The reception won't be starting until 7, so most people shouldn't have a problem getting there.

As I explained, it was a concern when we picked but we figured same thing as you....if people RSVP they're coming they will be there, if they can't they can't. I am worrying NOW b/c my mom told me this horror story the other day, and followed it with "well i don't know if my friends will leave work early".....didn't mention this earlier.

A ton of our friends do have half days or 4 days weekends through their companies....

I realize there will be other traffic besides shore traffic, hence my original post...I was just hoping those who have been to or had weddings in this area on a friday would be able to reassure me that it won't cause 50 people to be 2 hours late that's all.
