Worried Sick.. just need to vent.

My mom called me a little while ago to tell me she just found a lump on her breast.  She's panicking obviously, and I told her to stay calm and not jump to conclusions, but my stomach is turning in knots.  I'm going to go with her to the hospital tonight.

It doesn't look good because my grandma (her mom) also had breast cancer.  I'm so scared but I don't want to show it to my mom because I don't want to make it worse for her.

Just had to share that with someone, since FI is currently MIA in meetings all day today.  :(

  • I'm sorry to hear that.  I'm glad she's getting it checked out and that you can be there with her.  I hope everything turns out okay.
  • I'm sorry to hear that, good luck to your mom. Sounds like she checks often so even if it's bad news I'm sure she caught it early. Keep us updated.

Seriously.  Check it out.  My cousin was diagnosed in May.  She didn't do ANY western medicine.  Her lumps are gone.  Gone.  She changed her diet and saw the guy 3 times.  She's spoken to other survivors as well.

  • Oh and there were herbs and supplements involved too.  BUt after two weeks her lumps had shrunk by over half and he took her off the herbs and supplements.

  • I'm not sure if she checks often though, because she said it's very large and painful.  I have no idea what that means exactly, I'm hoping that since it's painful maybe it's not cancerous?

Thanks for the well wishes, I wish I knew how long it would take to find out the results.

  • Oh man I'm so sorry to hear that. My mom had breast cancer and we had to wait days to find out what stage it was, I was an absolute mess.

I'm definitely sending up prayers for you, your mom and your entire family. Prayers for good news!
  • Thanks Mandy I'll take a look at that site.

  • I'm so sorry :(  Remember it could be nothing.  The important thing is she is getting it checked out right away.  My mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer actually.  The key is finding it early and she did.  It is so scary, but hang in there.
  • I wish we had known about it when my mom got sick.  My life could be a lot different right now.  Coulda shoulda woulda though.

  • That is scary, and I'm sorry to hear it.

I think it's good that she found it (whatever it is) herself--it means that she's paying attention to her body, and that if something really is wrong, she's probably found it early. I hope everything goes well tonight. Keep us posted. *Hugs*
  • oh my god, that is so scary. Please keep us posted. We're hoping the best for all of you xx
  • My thoughts are with you, and I am sure your mom appreciates your support!

I'll hope for the best for her

  • Obviously as PPs said, have her go and get it checked out.

Bumps that suddenly appear and are painful are less likely to be cancerous, but given the family history of breast cancer, she should still have it worked up.

I have my fingers crossed that it's something benign and transient.
  • Not trying to 'one up' you or anything, but it might make you feel better. My mom gets lumps about twice every 5 years. She goes and gets a biopsy and they have always turned out to be just build ups of something. She's never had cancer, she just has lumpy boobs in her older age. It very well could be nothing. Here's hoping!

  • There are lots of different causes for breast lumps,  I really hope you can get some answers quickly so that you can stop worrying.  I'm sorry you're going through this.  Just stay positive and don't internet diagnose.

The best thing you can do is be there for your mom (which you obviously are).  There's no need to pretend to not be nervous for her, just be a good listener.

<div>All lumps, regardless of family history, should be checked, but mica is right.  Painful lumps are less likely to be cancerous, and just remember that 80% of lumps are nothing.  Good luck to you and your mom!</div>

  • I'm so sorry Xyrius. :(  I've got my fingers crossed for your mom that the lumps are benign. My mom just went through a thing with the lymph nodes in her neck and they had to remove one to find out what was wrong with it. No cancer, thank goodness, just a weird auto-immune response her body had to gluten. (She recently discovered she is gluten-intolerent).

Good luck to your mom. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you both.

  • Ditto PPs. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I hope they find out soon what's going on, and hope even more it turns out to be nothing major.
  • I am so sorry.... praying for you guys  ((((((you))))))) Laughing

  • I'm so sorry for you. Any lump is scary! My mom was diagnosed last June and after a bilateral mastectomy she is now a one year survivor!  I tried to PM you but it wouldn't work. If you need to talk to someone feel free, I know it's hard right now but don't let yourself get too upset until you know what's actually going on. Again I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.

  • Just focus on your work, keep yourself busy until this evening.  No sense in worrying about what you don't know to be true.

If it is anything serious, I know she caught it in time!  Thinking about you!  Be sure to give us an update.

  • That is very very scary.  I will certainly keep her in my thoughts and prayers, but at a time like this you're going to have to believe everything will turn out okay.  I had a great older woman friend (like my mom away from home) in college who has breast cancer.  I was absolutely in tears when I found out, but you know what?  She turned out okay and a lot of women are strong enough to make it through this.
  • Ohh man, I'm so sorry.. Definitely keep breathing, and don't freak out until / and if there's something to freak out about.. My Grandmother was diagnosed a few weeks ago, and  just found out she has Stage 3 (last night), so I kind of know what's going through your mind.. It will be a long road, but I have faith that we'll all make it.

Hopefully she found it early, if it's anything.. Please keep us updated as soon as you hear anything.. Happy thoughts coming your way..
