NOT the beach

Hi Everyone,

Just engaged but already on the hunt for a venue and I'm afraid I'll never find it.  We are getting married in the Palm Beach or North Broward county because we live in Sunrise, but we are NOT beach people.  I always hoped to rent a large house but I really don't want ocean front.  Even looking at hotels, it just feels like palm trees everywhere and looking online in Florida seems to focus on "destination weddings."  I was hoping for old Florida Banyan trees or, even better, pine trees!  We are getting married in January, so anything that could feel more wintery, the better.

Any suggestions? Or am I really going to have to convince my family that summer camp in Central Florida is the only place to do it? lol

Have you looked into places in North Palm Beach county? I'm anti- beach, anti- palm trees, anti- hotel and country club. I had little to choose from and wound up choosing the Palm Beach Zoo (love it)! A couple of ideas off the top of my head: Flagler, Dhrer Park, Old School Square, the Harriet Himmel in City Place... I feel your pain-- good luck!

Ya, I'm not a beach, palm tree kind of girl at all. It seems like a lot of the venues here do cater to that idea, but there are a few places like the ones that Faith named above. I'm having my wedding at the Old Davie School in Davie, which is NOT the beach. lol.

Villa Woodbine is a gorgeous house with an amazing outside space that fits what you are looking for. HTH!

    Thanks ladies!

Sorry I kind of went AWOL... trying to get future MIL and SILs (there are three of them! and i'm an only child) on board and realizing that I need to get more active on these boards so I can talk to people who care as much about weddings as I do right now!

The Addison was a great suggestion and put it on the "to visit" list.  I put the Bonnet House out because they don't allow any indoor use, but found the Sundy.

The Harriet Himmel looks like it could be very elegant but I worry how public it would feel.

Villa Woodbine is just too far south.  If I'm gonna make my whole family drive 2 hours, I'll make them go north not south.

Thanks again! and now I'm gonna try and post more around the boards : D
