Thats neither here nor there.  You're still legally a dependant of her.  If you are unable to support yourself 100% financially (Rent, food, gas, car, whatever..), then you're depending on someone, and on your FAFSA, they want to know who, or whom that is, be it your FI, or your mom, until you're 26.  That's why I had to put my parents even though, H and I support ourselves.   Because I'm only 23, they're correctly assuming that I am not 100% financially on my own.

In my head I'm trying to avoid the "if you get married, this will all work out" conversation, because in the long run, it might not....but I agree. She wouldn't be a dependent once married...

But then why does she need her mom's info. Neither of this makes sense. The better way for her to state it is "when FI and I get married in Nov I will be completing the FAFSA". Not, mymom is out of town for 6 weeks and I need her.

It's been a scary amount of years since I had to do a FAFSA, but I'm pretty sure they ask you for last year's tax information.  If you're planning on starting school in January, you wouldn't wait until then to apply for FAFSA.  So therefore when they ask for info from the prior year's tax return, they would be referring to 2010, where you weren't married at all.

Ehh... If you're starting at a new school and don't plan to give them any sort of transcripts (FYI.. you have to give them HS at the very least), then you're kind of starting over.   I considered just startion 100% over given how poorly I had done previously, but because I took classes in HS, and didn't do terrible in ALL the classes I took, I decided to just suck it up, and see what credits they would give me.  Now, for my degree program, they don't really care that I failed a photography class, or that I passed remedial math with a D, they see that I've gone from a poor student, to a really good student with A's & B's.

Honestly though, I just don't think you're ready for college.  Not everyone is right out of HS.  Clearly, I am a shining example of that.  I was pissed off that my parents wouldn't let me go to UofAlabama (I would have been 8-10 hours away from them, is a sorority, tailgating every weekend like it was my job) like I wanted to, they said I wasn't ready and that I should do a year or two at CC and prove to them that I could handle going to college out of state, and what did I do? I skipped classes, didn't do my homework, and ended up failing 4 classes in 2 semesters.  One of them I don't think I ever set foot in. I proved them right 100%.  What did I do? I joined the Navy, did my time and now I'm older, and more mature and doing well in school.  I honestly think that you're not ready.  You say you "know" what you want to do now, just like you knew you were going to enlist, and you were for sure not changing your 2013 wedding date.  You're completely incapable of making a decision and sticking to it for more than a week or two tops.  Save your money and just keep working for now.  Get married, or push it back or whatever, but I just think it'd be a waste of money for you right now.  Grow up some, and then go back to school.

And FTR, your enlistment BS still really REALLY pisses me off.

Funny story, I thought I knew I wanted to do. Got my undergrad degree and everything. Guess what? That's not what I am doing. I went and started my masters program after a semester break and now I am doing what I want to do.

In other words, the people who know what they want to do at 19 are very very very rare.

Also, FTR I am not saying don't go back to school. I am saying stop acting like everything is set in stone and nothing changes. THAT is the attitude that irks people on here. You keep saying things like they are going to happen and there is no alternative, i.e. "when my FI commissions", "I know what I want to do in school now", etc. You say that you know what life is like, but you have yet to show it to anyone. I can tell you that everyone on here when they were 19 thought they knew how the world worked, I can also guess that they will all tell you they were completely wrong.

Start recognizing that things change and things don't happen the way they want to and maybe people will start to actually respect you on here. Because here's the catch, yes, right now I am doing what I love, however, in 10 years that might not be the case and I might do something different. I will never assume that this is my career for "life" because I know that I change over time, so thus, what I want and love to do might change as well.

Basically stop acting like you are always right and that we know nothing because we haven't lived your life. Because, newsflash, you haven't lived any of ours so you have no clue what we know and what we can relate to.

I went to college right after high school graduation. I was 18. I thought I wanted to be a teacher. I'm happy in my job. I am good at what I do. However, if I could do it all over again, I don't know if I'd do it again. I wish I could have had more life experiences before picking something as huge as a college major.

Exactly. I went for teaching as well and I'm sure I would be happy doing it, but I love counseling right now. But, that could change again in a few years. Heck, its already changing, which is why I want to get my ph.d.

I say go to college and choose your degree, but at least recognize that your feelings might change, which is what Kendall refuses to do in any aspect of her life.

Disclaimer: I am aware that there are many people who go to college, love their job and degree choice. I know it happens, but its just not common. Just like there are young marriages that survive, but its not common. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

Okay guys, I understand where a lot of you are coming from...but come on. This has gotten to the point of 5th grade bullying. I mean people make mistakes...they fail at college for many reasons. But it isn't my place to tell them that they should or shouldn't continue to pursue their passions..even if it is just the flavor of the week. You can't really declare a major in CC anyway. It is mostly just gen-eds. That is great about the first 2 years of college, you can be flexible, you can change your mind a million times.
The fact that kendell doesn't admit her plans might change is completely normal. Coming from someone that changed their major several times, you don't plan for it..it just happens. Some statistic said that some large number of college grads don't even get a job in their major...and it doesn't matter.

While I am on the side that she is a stupid little girl, picking on her just because has gotten retarded. I mean really...the siggy?

I don't understand how you can have 3000 in debt from the community college. WTF? Different prices in different towns but I know people that their whole associates degree from the local community college was about 2000.
