Wedding Invitations & Paper

Happy hour wording

We are having a wedding on a Friday downtown... So traffic is a concern and are doing a happy hour from 45 ceremony will start at 5. We want to give our guests time to get there, mingle, grab wine/snack without rushing through traffic just to hang around for an hour without anything to do but also so people don't show up late bc they did hit traffic. Anyhow, we would like people to show up for most of happy hour, but we don't want it to seem like they have to be there at 4 on the dot. How would you word the invite so it doesn't seem either too formal or that they should just show up at 4:55?

Re: Happy hour wording

  • Please join us for pre-ceremony cocktails and light fare beginniing at (insert time)
Ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm
  • Don't worry about traffic when putting the time on your invites. People will know to take that into account.

Are you doing separate inserts along with the invitation? I'd make this an insert, rather than put it on the invite itself. On the actual invite, just put the time the ceremony will actually begin.

On the insert, say something like this:

Prior to the ceremony, please join us for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres
    beginning at four o'clock
    Venue
    City, State
