Need advice on color scheme

Hi all
I am hoping for a little advice on what color to put the groomsmen in.
Here are my wedding colors:

I couldn't find an exact match for this purple. I went back to find the picture again after I saved it and could no longer find the website. I ended up with Regency from David's Bridal, which is a deep but brighter purple ( It looks blue online, but it's not)
Here is the swatch:

Here is where I need help- although the color is close, there is something about this color that isn't sitting right with me. The men are in black tuxes, ivory shirt and this purple vest and tie. I am wondering now if that is too much purple? I love the way the pic above looks, but it's obviously not going to look like that. I am wondering if maybe I should have the men in charcoal color vest and ties, or even charcoal vest and purple tie? Any input would be greatly appreciated! I am trying not to stress it, but it keeps popping into my head and I can't put it to rest. I know that ultimately what really matters is the fact that I am marrying the man I love, but for some reason, this is driving me nuts! LOL
Thank you all in advance!!

Re: Need advice on color scheme

  • I personally am not a fan of colored vests.

I think the purple vest and purple tie looks okay together.
  • I think that the charcoal vest and purple tie would look really sharp.  A lot of people are of the opinion that colored vests should be reserved for the prom.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I have no problem with colored vests.  It is a wedding that people are attending so I doubt they will get it confused with a high school dance.

My first instinct is that I don't think it is too much purple at all.

But if you are really concerned, I like your idea of putting them in a more neutral vest and then having the pop of color in the tie.

  • Thanks guys!
I think that's what is bugging me- the purple vest. When I see it in that pic, it looks sharp, but in person, not so much. I might have to just change it!
    Thanks again!
  • What does your FI want them to wear? Our guys wore black vests with green/black ties. Most guys I know would MUCH rather be in a neutral vest than a colorful vest. But it should be whatever your FI wants, ultimately. What has he said about this choice? Have you asked him?

Our guys are in blue ties but have chracoal vests that match the tuxes. I definitely prefer that look!

  • My FI says he likes both options, with his preference more towards the purple on purple, but he said for me to pick whichever I think looks best if I wanted to. Eeek! So I am torn because it's his wedding too, and I love that he has an opinion on things. I was just worried that it might be too much purple, but I love the original pic. As you can see, I am totally undecided LOL
That's what I was thinking too mbcdefg , that maybe the guys would prefer more neutral than color vests, although they are pretty laid back that I think they could care less LOL

ps at amymaysa- Love those shoes! Gorgeous!

the colors of my wedding were lavender and brown.  The guys wore a brown tux with a brown vest, ivory shirts with lavender ties and pocket squares.  It does look like a great picture but if you feel unsettled about it talk to your FI if he is indifferent then go with the black vest and let the ties be the pop of color.  But it really comes down to what you and your FI think will look best on that day.
