As a birthday present from my parents..

I got this nice little birdie. I think I'm going to name her Nora, but I'm open for suggestions.

It hurt like hell. I wasn't expecting it to hurt that bad. I thought I was good with pain, but it really did feel like a knife slicing into my shoulder. It wasn't a stabbing pain, it was a slicing one.

That being said, I absolutely love it. I've been giddy since it was finished.

(I promise I don't have back fat rolling over my shirt, BF is just way taller than me and made it at a weird angle)

I had to lay down because I couldn't take it sitting up. The pain was better after I was laying down.

I like it!

I remember my tattoo hurt like hell when I got it and the artist wouldn't let me lay down - he made me sit up and it was awful. That being said I have an extremely low pain tolerance.

My main one is a faerie on my back but I've been getting it removed - I'm just not happy with it anymore. I got it when I was 18 and if I had gotten it smaller or in a different place I'd be fine with it but it's on my upper back so it's hard to cover sometimes.

Well I was getting it removed - it's too costly to drive up to Houston every month and do a session so it's on hold for now

Yeah, I went back and looked. You can't see it at all.

I made sure to get something that I wouldn't mind seeing in a wedding dress, but I'm keeping my options open for wanting to possibly cover it when that day comes. But of course right now I don't think I'll want to.

It's a very personal decision to cover it up or not - since I was getting it removed anyway it was pretty easy to decide to cover it.

I think I'll really like to have it at my wedding. It really upsets me that my grandma won't be able to be there, so I'd like to have it show for her.

Haha yeah, the outline is supposed to hurt a lot and then the shading isn't supposed to hurt at all. That's what my artist said at least. He was like "I would tell you what I normally tell people: the outline is the worst part, and the shading you won't even feel. But since yours is just a bunch of outline... it won't make you feel any better."

Here's a random/ weird question.... so do you have to make sure you don't sleep on your back tonight/ for a few nights because of it?

I don't know anything about tattoos, I've never had one.

Yeah, you should make sure to not have things rub on it as much as possible. He said to really be careful with my bra strap.

I sleep on my stomach anyway, though.

This reminds me. Try your absolute best to not lay on it, and to wear loose clothing, because it hurts like heck to peel your clothes off of your tattoo because it oozes and then dries. What did you tattoo artist tell you in terms of care? I've heard different things, and I think it's interesting to hear them.

He said to wash it with unscented light soap (my paper has specific types, I can't remember them) and then after that keep putting Aquaphor on it about three times a day. Put it on, let it dry, wait a little while, and put it on again. Don't put too much or it will hinder the healing. He said the only thing I really need to watch out for is to keep my bra strap off of it (his wife got one on the top of her shoulder and you can see a small line through it where she wore a spaghetti strap tank top the day after).

I can swim in10 days, I guess. He told my dad 10 days, the paper says 14, he didn't tell me anything.

Okay, that sounds almost exactly what I've been doing. I usually only do Aquaphor the first week, and then just unscented lotion after that. Swimming I've always been told 2 weeks.

Your tattoo is really nice. It looked like it hurt, though.

Mine only pinched, but I have a small design on my forearm so it felt like I was having blood drawn. Not too bad. My friend, who got a tattoo at the same time as me, got a pretty big religious symbol as a tramp stamp (I won't go into the irony now), and was in agony. I remember the artist telling her, "OK, now I have to shade it in," and she went, "WHAT?! IT'S NOT EVEN SHADED IN?!"

There are small parts where mine is shaded in, and it didn't hurt at all. I didn't feel it. It was just that it's made up of all curvy lines and those are what hurt. And I have like.. no fat on my shoulder. At all.

It hurts pretty bad right now, but just like a really bad sunburn. The kind where you can't wear a bra because it hurts too bad. I have to go to work so I'm trying to find something that won't rub it.

I LOVE your tattoo! Did your grandma like birds? How does it remind you of her?

I wish I had the guts to get one. I was really close to getting a white ink tattoo that said "Hope" on my wrist after a friend committed suicide in February, but I'm afraid that getting a visible tattoo might be a bad idea for my career. Maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and get it...

I wouldn't get a white ink tattoo, I've seen a lot that healed and turned brown. Unless brown is what you're going for. In that case, go for it.

There's a story about my grandma and I sitting and watching her bird feeders. I don't have time to get into it right now but I'll come back after work and tell it if you want.

I love it. I have a tattoo there but it didn't hurt very much. I have another on my lower back that hurt like hell. After the lower back one, I've decided no more tattoos.

i love your tattoo. it's always nice when they have a story behind them too. mine doesn't. lol. my friend and i got our tattoos done the same day and she got hers in the same place you did. she was saying how much it hurt, but then our artist did a dry line (the needle, but no ink) for her where i got mine so she could feel the difference...i have mine on the top of my right foot. it hurt like hell. it only took 20 min for the whole thing, but i still had to take a break halfway through. the pain is worth it if you love it tho...i think yours is a design that will look nice with a wedding dress too.

Okay. The story.

When I was little I would watch the birds with my grandma at her bird feeders. One day we were watching and a little cardinal flew up to the feeder, but he didn't eat anything. Then two other birds (I don't recall what kind they were) came up and started eating. But they really weren't eating, they were just breaking the seed. Then they took turns taking the broken seeds and putting it in the cardinal's mouth. They were feeding him. Turns out, the cardinal had a broken beak and couldn't eat the seed by himself and the other two were taking care of him so that he didn't starve.
