NWR: Best place to buy jeans?

I live in jeans. If it's under 90 degrees, generally, I'm in jeans... but I find that most of the ones I have are ill-fitting. The 3 or 4 pairs that aren't are full of holes because I wear them so much.

I'm 5'1"... so most jeans that fit in length are too small in the waist, and most that fit in the waist are way too long. Most jeans are huge in the butt... or they're fine when I buy them and then stretch, so I look like I'm wearing a diaper (sad, but true).

Any tips where to look for jeans? I generally like the way Bongo jeans fit (can find them at Sears), but I wear holes in them in a matter of months. I don't generally like to spend more than $25 or so on a pair, but I realize that is likely unrealistic for a good quality pair of jeans...

Help?

I really like Gap jeans, but I'm 7 inches taller than you so I cant speak to the length issue. I just find that they fit me and all of my shapes a lot better than anything else I've tried on.

I am 5'2" and I LOVE Anne Taylor Loft jeans. I usually have the same problems you are describing but their petite section truly fits short people. They usually run about $65 but if you sign up for e-mails and wait long enough they run 40% deals about once a month. I have a pair I wear at least three times a week and they are going two years strong now, so it might be worth investing in more expensive jeans if they will last you longer.

I'm a hoar for Express and Limited jeans. They're pricey - but if you catch Limited during their sale, they're more reasonable.

I find that Express jeans make my arse look fantastic. (I'm 5'5")

I always go to a place like Marshall's or TJ Maxx as there are several different name brands to try on. Even if there isn't the exact pair I'm interested in there that day, it's nice to be informed of different brands and how the sizing runs.

I am also short 5'2". Lucky Jeans fit me really well and they are available in the right length. You can buy them at department stores and possibly The Buckle. For a splurge, I really like 7 For All Mankind. If you buy them at Nordstrom they will hem them for free and they basically reconstruct the jean so that it doesnt lose its shape like when you hem boot cuts and they become straight leg. For cheaper jeans, I can make do with Loft.

Thanks for all of the suggestions ladies! I have a huge heart attack when I spend money on just about anything, but I know I need to invest in better jeans. $20 for a pair that last 6 months is not better than a $60 pair that lasts 2 years... it's just getting over that initial sticker shock. LOL.

FWIW - I don't mind the jeans with holes; I'm wearing a pair now. But it makes it hard for when I'm trying to look a little nicer (without looking too dressed up) when I don't have any good fitting jeans without holes.

do you like low rise? i often bought men's levi's - 501's or 505's - i liked it becuase you couldd buy the exact waist and length you needed. ive never understood why women's pants arent sold this way.

Another vote for Ann Taylor Loft. They fit great and are good quality for the money (especially if you find them on sale). Just do not ever ever put them in the dryer, or they will not fit so good anymore...

Jeans are one thing I splurge on, because I wear them all the time, they generally stay in style (I go plain with jeans) and they go with everything (I stay dark wash most times too)

I'm going to compile a list of places and just go try a bunch of brands on, I think. We have most of where you've all mentioned at our mall.

I like to think I have a good booty (at least H says I do), so I'm tired of wearing jeans that don't show it off.

Look for jeans that have smaller butt pockets (and girls with small butts should look for jeans with larger pockets). Also, look for jeans that have less than 3% lycra to solve the stretchiness problem.

Also, be prepared to spend some money. I used to do the $25 or less jeans, but at a certain point I realized that I was spending a lot of money to replace those pants time and again, whereas more expensive pairs last longer.

This fashion blog has lots of great tips, and here (click) is a post specifically about shopping for jeans, though it probably won't tell you WHERE to buy.

I've had good luck before with New York & Company jeans.

I have the same problem! I'm 5'0" on a tall day and have been having a hard time finding jeans that fit. I used to live in Old Navy and the Limited Jeans, but I think they must have recently undergone some changes because the jeans that used to fit perfectly no longer do.

I just bought a couple of pairs from Abercrombie though and LOVE them! It was actually one of my guy friends that suggested it and after a 3 hour trip to the mall last weekend trying jeans on at every store, they were the only place where I actually found jeans that fit me and looked good. They're just a tad too long, but that's easy enough to fix with some heels, but since you're a little taller than me, they might work for you.

I used to buy PacSun jeans exclusively in college, and then hit a streak where I couldn't find any there that fit me. Maybe it's time to look there again.

I am 4'11 and Express jeans in a "short" usually fit me just right or I have to get a bit of a hem or wear a heal, so they should fit you perfectly. They are pricey, some are $100 but there are always coupons available and sales on jeans. Honestly I won't look anywhere except Expres when I need jeans. I've had pairs for 5+ years that still look new. Godd luck

It's about finding the right brand that makes the perfect cut for you. Joe's Jeans are perfect for my silhouette (slim but curvy) so I have more of those than anything else. Seven For All Mankind comes in second. I also like Abercrombie jeans, some are hit and miss with them.

Those are the Bongo jeans that I buy... I love everything about them *except* that they tear so quickly :(

Maybe this is a really dumb question, but the jeans that are lasting the longest - do you air dry them? Or to do you tumble dry them? I tumble dry all of my jeans - is that contributing to the holes, do you think?

I tumble dry all my clothes; I don't get tears from the dryer but from the agitator in the washing machine. But now I have a new dryer with no agitator so I'm hoping that clears up the tearing issue.

I am 5'1" and am size 12 or 14, and I looooove Maurices jeans. They are stretchy and I can buy them in extra short and they are the perfect length.

All time favorite are Lucky Charlie Baby Boot cut. I'm 5'4 with short legs and a long torso so the short length in these jeans is perfect for me to wear with a 2" or so wedge. Zero gapping in the back too which is hard for me to find.

I turn all of my jeans inside out when I wash & dry them (tumble) to help prevent fading and wear & tear.

I've never had to throw out a pair of jeans from tearing up. Everything goes in the dryer too. I have washed in both top loading and front loading machines without problems. Most of my jeans I have had at least a few years, some much longer. Are you rough with them?

I love NY & Co. jeans. I'm 5'6", but all their pants (dress pants also) come in short, average, and tall. I usually buy both average and tall so I can have a pair to wear with flats and a pair to wear with heels. I prefer some stretch in my jeans because I think it's comfier, and I swear I've had a pair of their stretch jeans for a year and a half, wearing them multiple times per week, yet they are still not stretched out. They're pretty reasonably priced too, and NY & Co. is always running sales and sending out coupons.

It seems like they normally shrink in length, which bugs the cr*p out of me because I HATE jeans that are too short. So I hang all of my jeans to dry, and they fir perfectly every time:-)</div>

I think its worth it to spend $100+ on jeans because they last FOREVER (and the premium brands are all made in the US). You can usually get these brands on sale at Nordstrom's during their semi-annual sale. Shopbop.com has good sales all year long, too, and they have free shipping and returns.

I may be biased because my mother owns a boutique that sells premium denim, and I interned in college at the James Jeans showroom, but I have never had an issue with the pricey brands. If I do, or any of my mom's customers do, she simply takes the jeans back and contacts the brand rep she works with and replaces the jeans. One of the benefits of supporting smaller, local boutiques.

Also, in response to the short part - most denim brands, particularly premium, will only make jeans in one inseam length as a cost saving measure. They know that one size will never fit all for women, and they'd prefer to focus on offering different fits that flatter body shapes. Its far easier to hem jeans than alter the fit. Your local dry cleaner should be able to hem any pair for no more than $20.

My personal favorite brands are Hudson, James, J Brand and Citizens of Humanity.
