We have a wedding to go to the weekend of thanksgiving, and ive been trying to get inspired on dress shopping because im tall and plus size so clothes shopping in general is never easy. my other problem is i love dressing up. so im afraid ill go over the top. i dont want to show up looking more dressy then the wedding party

So i found this dress.....

which i think is cute and probably appropraite as far as dressy-ness, and i would probably wear black boots with it. but i haven't tried it on yet and the way it sinches in below the bust, sometimes that style makes me look like im expecting and since im not, thats not the look im going for.....

so along the lines of the above dress can anyone suggest other dresses or other places to look....

I have to say I'm not a fan of that dress. It looks more like a dress appropriate for summer than fall. That being said, I don't really have any other suggestions for places to shop.

You should try the plus size board. I know I've seen threads there on where to find regular dresses in plus sizes. The ladies there are very nice and helpful from what I've seen.

I actually do not like that dress at all, but that is just personal preference. It is very summery, in my opinion and not very dressy. It reminds me of a beach coverup. From your OP, you said you wanted to be a little more dressed up.

Depending on how much you want to spend, Igigi.com is a great choice for dresses. But, they are expensive.

I've also seen cute plus size clothing and dresses at Target. At least the Target near me has a huge clothing section with lots of good options for all sizes. Additionally I would check department stores near you like some of the PPs have mentioned. For instnace, INC at Macy's has some really neat plus size clothing (pretty much a lot of the same clothing they have in "regular" sizes). Another option if you have one near you or to visit online is Torrid.

I'm not a big fan of the dress for weddings. I understand you want to dress down a bit but this dress is too casual. My mom and I buy our Cocktail dresses at JcPenny's or Dress Barn, they have a really nice plus size selection. I love the ones CmGilpin posted btw.

i want something similar style to this, i cant put into words what im looking for, nor can i find it.

no offense to anyone but everything ive ever seen or found from JCP always looks like i should be 20 years older. im only 27 and i want to look young and sexy? but not like trashy sexy. ugh.

I am very surprised you went from that first dress, which is basically a casual summer dress, to formal bridesmaids' gowns.

You need to find a happy medium somewhere.

here are some good choices for "young" and dressy, but not overly formal. those gowns you posted above are entirely inappropriate for a guest at a wedding.

there were at least probably 7 or 8 girls at my wedding wearing davids bridal bridesmaids dresses....2 of them that my maid of honor had tried on!!! id like to find something similar style of the original one i found, so i can wear it with black boots. if i dont wear black boots im wearing flip flops....
