WR: Help with colors please

So my wedding will be this fall in November and I'm having trouble trying to incorporate my favorite color (navy) into this season for the wedding. I really really don't want to leave it out but the mother is saying I need to because it's not a fall color. So I thought using this color combination...what do you think? Does it look ok? I like using beige and navy and hints of gray here and there. I don't think it tooks too "summery" so maybe it will work...idk? Help haha. Suggestions please.

Re: WR: Help with colors please

  • early or late November?
  • I love it!

I do think color combos tend to "fit" seasons, but do. not. avoid the colors you like!
  • more options!  :)

I think navy can be used all year round; your accent colors will more likely define the "season".

  • We got married in early November and considered a midnight blue and silver combination.  I think you should consider where you want to get married and what colors would be nice for bridesmaid dresses/decor overall (ie not a nude color in April when everyone is pale and looks naked...).  A fall wedding doesn't need the stereotypical fall colors..coming from someone who used those stereotypical fall colors haha

  • good point about the venue, sak.  do you know where you're getting married yet?  I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a couple options in mind for color schemes if you haven't decided on a venue.  like I said, I think navy is a safe neutral and you can fill in the accent colors once you know where you're getting married.

OMG I love the first one! The antique gold is beautiful with the Navy and white combo. That could definitely be a game changer haha. The really like the second one too! Yay possibilities!

This is true. FI and I are pretty set on where we would like to get married but we haven't signed any contracts yet so it's not set in stone. We are visiting the venue this Saturday so once we get some time to look around and see what might fit, that will probably help a lot.
  • exciting!  you'll have to post pictures.  I think navy is a lovely color; there are some gorgeous navy BM dresses out there if you choose to go that route.
  • I think colors "fitting" to seasons is bogus.  I'm picking whatever color I want.  Actually, I'm thinking of picking more regal (navy, maroon/garnet, forest green) colors in spring.  Shocking :)

At least I THINK the "normal" colors of spring are like pink and mint green and colors I would not be interested in.

Also my BFF is getting married in October and her colors include navy, so you're fine ;)

Yes, I love the BM dresses in navy. My sisters and I were looking at them the other day online and we were just oooing and ahhing over them haha. Plus I agree with the beige maybe blending in with some skin tones and I don't want my BMs to look naked up there lol sooo I don't think I'll rule out navy. Mom will just have to deal with it.

    Those colors sound so beautiful!!
  • it's your wedding.  I let my mom push me around and I really regret it.  there are a lot of things about my wedding and engagement period that I just didn't like at all.  if you can, just be respectful of your mom but still go with what you want.  :)  I wish I would have been able to do that!

for fall, navy dresses with gold shoes might be really pretty.  if it were summer, I would lean more towards nude shoes.  I would think a navy dress would look good on all skin types...?

but you might change your mind when you choose a venue.  who knows!
  • Ditto PP.  I'd definitely wait to make any definite decisions until you book a venue. Only because the colors of the walls/chairs/carpeting might clash with what you've selected.

I also don't think you need to match your colors to the season per se. I mean I don't know that I'd do pastels in the fall but my colors are grey, black, and white which could be really, really wintery so we're being careful with which we put next to each other and how and where. They're my favorite colors and I was using them regardless :)

I really like the navy and gold combo but like the consensus has been saying I will wait until this weekend to scope out the venue and see what looks good with the walls and such that will be in the room. I hope it all goes well with this venue! We are so excited and we love it so much from what we have seen.
  • I am getting married Nov 2 and our colors are pink and navy.  I hate the fall color scheme of orange/red/yellow (like fall leaf change).  So I chose a color scheme that we really like and just ignored what season it will be.  Our ceremony site is in a botanical garden conservatory/green house thing so every thing will be all lush and green like spring/summer anyway.

Actually I really like the idea of navy, gold and ivory with a ton of candles, but FI liked navy and pink (a mix of dark and light pinks) better, so we went with that.

  • I agree with what other posters have said.  Navy would be such a beautiful color for a fall wedding.  I think Navy blue is one of those colors that looks great on everyone if you use that for your bridemaids dress color.

  • I love those colors! However, I think you should pick whatever colors you like. I went to an early June wedding two summers ago with a white/red/black combination which I wouldn't necessarily think of as "summery" but the bride did such a good job with the venue and it looked great in their pictures.

  • Thank you everyone! I really feel a lot better about Navy. Hopefully FI and I will be able to figure out the combo colors this weekend when we visit the house and decide if that's going to be our location. They have the date open we want so it will probably just come down to discussing the nitty gritty details. I'll give y'all an update next week on how things go.
  • my favorite color is green, and I thought this navy + green combo was really pretty.  not exactly "FALL" if that's what you're looking for, but you could tone down the brightness of the green and add some warm gold and ivory and VOILA!

I just love this palette!  I can't get enough of green, and with the navy it is just classy.

  • I LOVE navy! It's so rich feeling because of how saturated it is!

Ditto on adding in some gold - I don't think that it's needed to make it more "fall" but I think it would help balance the pallate out a bit (you have all cool colors and I think that some gold tones would warm it up a little bit!)

Also, I think that a teensy pop of apple/deep saturated red would look fabulous in some of the flower arrangements or other elements (like a few tiny red flowers added into the boquets/ centerpieces/adding a red ribbon onto something). It would completely contrast and be a little unexpected.
