Re: Good morning E!

  • I'm here, although I feel we don't really know each too well.  Hi Loopy :)

I'm actually just prowling around, wondering if matilda is going to put up a Harry Potter post (I'm lame).  After that, I'm off to a wedding/home for the rest of the weekend.
  • Good morning!  H and I are up doing honeymoon research.

  • Good morning!  I'm actually awake which sucks because its not even 7 here yet.  But at least I got some sleep last night which was good.

    Hello, E!

Andy - I am getting some awesome recs in a thread I put up on SB. I would check it out :) Any ideas on where you are thinking of going?
  • M&M - I totally saw that before and was going to look at them too.  No idea where we are going - two days ago we cancelled our plans to go to Egypt so its a blank slate.  I know that we want to go someplace with diving but also with nice beaches and good food.  That's it.

  • Hi Joy - I pop up some - do a lot of reading at work, but not much posting.  I work too much, but that's about to get better :).
  • edited November 2010
Whoa! Egypt! I definitely know what you mean though about beaches and food. That is all I can think about especially now it is so freaking cold out!
  • FI got up super early so he could go get his hair cut at his grandfather's barber shop so I have been cleaning all morning. I have decided to use my period of job searching to sew some curtains for the house. All of our windows are completely bare and its getting annoying. Plus it gives me an excuse to use my grandmothers sewing machine.

  • Egypt sounds fun.  My brother was talking about going to Fiji for his HM, but then he ended up going to Germany for work for 6 months starting 2 days after the wedding, so they're calling it their extended European honeymoon - and I am jealous!! :)
  • Morning! We're taking one of the dogs to a Pet Resort near here to check the place out. We're thinking of boarding him when we're gone for Thanksgiving. The other three will be cared for by L's sister. He's the only one we can't really leave at home w/o supervision.

DNB - I just finished reading your support thread. I'm glad you got some sleep. Lucas was in the Navy for 10 years, he was on shore duty when we met. He was a nuclear munitions mate on a submarine. I'm glad he's not in anymore because their deployments can be up to a year. They also don't get email regularly so it's hard to communicate at all. I'm sure you know, but be careful what you put in emails. The Navy will censor them. He got an email while on deployment from his ex-wife that didn't have all of the information in it. Needless to say he came home to an unplesant surprise.

  • Hi everyone! I'm catching up everything that didn't get done this crazy week and still trying to find some time to relax too.

Andy, what made your plans change?
  • Opal - Stupid work retreat that I didn't know about and that I have to have to have to go to.

  • Well, crap on that. I hope you come up with something else just as awesome.
  • Good morning all! I'm up doing random things that need to get done 1 WEEK BEFORE I GET MARRIED!! (ack! still feels surreal!!!!!!)

DNB - so glad you were able to get some sleep; my entire family, including me is Army so while our deployments are bit different....I am not looking forward to when FI gets deployed in a couple of years (luckily right now we are "protected" because we are resident physcians).  What are your plans for today? do you have a lot of fam up in seattle??

yeah its partly H's fault too.  He only has two weeks that he can take off during February - March (when I don't have any trials) so we can only go somewhere for a week and go to this retreat.

BUT now we are also going to Paris this summer so it evens out.  :)

  • Sorry one of my friends just called who I haven't talked to in forever and I got sidetracked.  Gotta love when people forget about the time difference though, but I was up anyways.

Mkrupar- That stinks for your H's situation with his ex.  I know that they read everything which stinks.  I have heard too that they will censor the messages people get on ships and especially submarines so as to not ruin the morale and have them freak out.  That would suck though.

Trisara- Thats good that you have a few years before deployments.  H will have 2 within a year but then we should have about 5 years without one hopefully so thats what i'm looking forward to.  I have no plans today.  Hoping to hear from him when he gets a chance to call.  I know his flight landed because I was able to check it so that was a big relief, but hopefully he can call today.  And no, I have no family here.  All of my family and friends are in NY.

  • Andy that sucks about Egypt.   i know you were excited for it.  Paris will be fun though!  Maybe you guys can go do an all inclusive in Mexico or something for that first week, which covers your beach and sun, and of course your passion for drinking.

  • Morning. I'm up hanging out with the doggies, waiting for DH to get up. He's going to go have an alarm installed in his new car while I clean, then we're meeting at his parents' house to celebrate his dad's birthday.

  • eye to eye dnb.  But probably not Mexico because we did that last year.  We are thinking some of the virgin islands maybe.  H is big into diving and I'm going to get certified and try it.  I love snorkeling so I think I'll like it.

  • DNB - do you have any connections to other wives in his unit (sorry, probably not the Navy term for such groupings, but hopefully you get it)?? Sometimes those can be helpful! Maybe you could arrange to go to one of the Washington vineyards?

  • Andy- we are thinking of doing Sandals, we've heard from other good friends that they really had fun!

  • I've been awake since 6am.  After three days in the ICU in the animal hospital, Gil is finally home and resting comfortably :)

  • I keep doing P&R's today.  But that was good reason.  H actually ended up on Skype and we Skyped for a while.  Its crazy that he can get 24 hours of internet access for the same money it would cost for literally 2 minutes on the telephone.  Skype is a beatiful thing.

Sara I actually have met a lot of the wives on the ship already because they do a monthly meeting for the spouses.  There is one that lives right across the street from me that I've hung out with a few times and will be spending a lot of time with now probably.

Andy you guys will definitely be able to find somewhere fun.  You should wait til KJB gets back since her cruise is going to a lot of different islands and see what she has to say about them.

Psydet- is that a dog or a cat?  What happened?  Glad he's okay though.

Gil is my cat.  He ingested a leaf from a very toxic plant (Easter lilies) and had to have his kidneys flushed.  The toxin in the plant causes kidney failure within 48 hours so I'm very lucky that he's back home with me.  Gave me quite a scare.

  • I'll AW some pictures of him because he's so handsome.

Here he is at the ER during our visit.

  • Oh that would be very scary, especially with how tiny their organs are.  Our old family dog that has since passed ate almost a full bottle of Advil before.  My dad had it in a ziploc bag in his cooler from when he was still working construction and didn't have the lid sealed properly, so she got into the cooler and the ziploc bag.  It was so scary because we didn't know how long it had been since she got it or how many were there, and she was falling over as she was walking.  She went to the pet ER and they pumped her and gave her charcoal and she ended up fine.

So glad to hear your cat is okay too.  He's very cute too (and I'm not even a cat person).

  • Thank you :) He's sort of dog-like: plays fetch, is a people-person, loves to greet you at the door!

  • awww he's a very cuty kitty.  I'm glad he's ok!  Did you go to the Chicago Emergency Animal Hospital?  They have saved my little doggie both times he ate something naughty.
