...in a town you've never heard of before. And there's a website for the wedding. What kind of info would you like to find on said website?

I've never been to a wedding that provided a website full of info. So I don't know what's 'usual' for this. I'm working on our website this week so I can be sure the site that's hosting it will be able to "do" all that I want it to before printing the address on our invitations.

I'd want to know good local restaurants to eat at and what attractions are in the area that shouldn't be missed (or are unique to the city). That way if I were travelling there I could decide if I just want to book a few days for the wedding or maybe longer to see and do more in the area.

Things to do in town. For example -- I put a bunch of places to go in town -- downtown GSO for shopping, Guilford Courthouse Military Park for walking/history, Civil Rights Museum, wineries, etc., and linked to a few restaurants we like (Natty Greenes and Liberty Steakhouse). I think I also put triaddiner.com on there so people could look at menus for local restaurants, and linked to the GSO Convention Center or Visitors Bureau or something like that.

I used mywedding.com., and on the local attractions page it lets you put in a place, address/phone #, a website for each place, a picture, and a description.

The site also has the hotel info, ceremony/reception/day after brunch times and addresses; registry info; wedding party info; an "about us" page; and a contact page with my #, FI's # and our moms' email and #s.

Ha. Brandy, those are great suggestions. But it made me laugh a little to imagine people seeing my hometown as a weekend destination. Attractions, you're funny. ;) I like the restaurant idea though, I can point people towards some good local places in the next town. Thanks :)

Thanks, Beth for the suggestions. I'll have to check out mywedding if the site I'm using doesn't work out or I get too frustrated with it.

How far away would you consider too far for "local attractions"? Most of my family lives in the area, so this will mostly be for FI's family and our college and work friends. Many of our guests are only coming from an hour and a half-ish away. I was thinking of sticking to the town and one town in either direction (which will be where suggested hotels are). Greensboro things are about 45 mins away. Think that's too far?

It's not a big deal to add tons of info, I just don't want to overwhelm people.

I think it would depend on if you know of anyone coming in for several days, or if most people are coming in the day before and leaving soon after. You can always just link to the various surrounding cities' visitors pages so people have somwhere to explore.

I think "too far" kind of depends on what there is to do in your town. If we had gotten married in the town we're from choices would have been mexican, italian, fast food and no attractions or anything else to do. I definitely get the nothing to do situation. The closest town with anything to do would have been about 30 minutes away...you can always include a few of your favorite things to do in the Greensboro area and your guests can decide if they're interested. Greensboro may be on their way in or out & they could do something on the way through. GL

In my website I listed the restaurants within walking distance to the hotel and the visitor center's webpage for current happenings/event calendar. I'm sure whatever you put in your webiste that your guests with appreciate.

I agree with Beth, put info about things to do or visit. Our wedding is 25 mnutes north of wilmington. So I put a whole page together about what you can do in around Surf City then mentioned that Wilmington is close as well. Feel free to check out my page.

There's the link to mine that I put in our invitations. Its clicky. I didn't include restaurants or things to do...maybe I should have. But we are also getting married in Charlotte, which is different than a small town. It was easy to do and fun, but I have no clue if people used it or will use it.
