Anyone getting hit with this storm?

I know it's bad in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. It's headed our way in IL tomorrow into Wed. They're calling for 6-8" in our area beginning early tomorrow morning, so I am hoping for a snow day. Honestly I don't want to get a day behind at work, but I commute 50 min. and am concerned about making it in. I also am pretty sure that if we DO have to go, I will need to stay at a hotel in town tomorrow night because I probably won't make it back. Unfortunately it's a super small town with only one tiny hotel :(

Anyone else getting hit or getting snow days? We had another winter storm last week that wasn't as bad as they said and we had no snow days out of it, but I have a feeling this storm will live up to its potential.

  • We are supposed to get it tomorrow night/overnight/wednesday morning. I'm a supply teacher and it always makes me laugh when I get called into work on snow days. It's like, "Well it's bad enough that permanent teachers can't make it in, but go ahead, risk your life, you won't get paid if you don't."

<div>I wish we had snow days!!  They don't exist here cos we'd miss half of winter.  Our board refuses to close it's doors because some crazy parent will miss/ignore the reports and send little 6 year old Johnny to school in a light coat and leave without checking to see if the doors are open, leaving poor Johnny to freeze in the -42 plus wind chill.   I wouldn't mind an occasional surprise day off though.  </div>

  • Just got notified we have a snow day :)

It is already nasty outside and just started. 40 MPH winds, blowing snow, ice, and it is supposed to continue snowing until 8 AM tomorrow!

Stay safe everyone, especially those of you having to be out driving around.

  • I wish we'd get hit with a winter storm. We've just had a frustratingly disappointing, rainy winter. It's just grey and cold outside. I miss living in Vermont.

  • It's just rain here in NC, but I have to fly to California today! The weather's bad here, and I'm transferring in Texas. Argh!

  • I'm home from work today! Yay! My office has only closed twice for weather in the last seven years. Unfortunately, at my house, we got nearly nothing. The storm stalled out about 2 miles west of me, so I could take a two minute drive and check it out. I'm actually really excited its not bad because my first ultrasound is today and I didn't want it to get cancelled.

Lol I wish we had snow days too. My board cancels buses but doesn't close schools. It bugs me that teachers will take the day off because they can't get into work, but they'll still expect me to drive somewhere! Where abouts in Canada are you?

They keep saying we're gonna get hit, but so far just rain...which I am perfectly fine with!

  • We have had gobs of snow this yhear, which is unusual since southern Idaho is actually high desert (sucks for skin, but awesome if you clean your carpets).

We don't even have plows here, because anything over an inch is so unusual.  Add that the large Californian transplant population here, and it's a death-defying feat to get to work and back on snow days.

  • We've been getting the southern-most bands here in N. Fla. I know, not as bad as iced over roads (and safe driving to anyone dealing with the worst of it), but it has been pouring rain since Sunday afternoon. We've had several flash flood warnings, a number of streets are flooded, and low lying areas in surrounding counties are filled to the brim. Weather has cleared up here this afternoon, but this morning there were hurricane force winds measured at the airport, and I had a literal river outside my front door. Rain and wind can be easily dealt with, the big concern here in Tallahassee is all the tall trees potentially uprooting.

Sending good vibes for safety and warmth to those in the Midwest and Plains dealing with the snowstorm!

As long as your layover isn't in Lubbock or Amarillo, you should be fine. DFW and Houston are okay, just high winds. Be prepared for a bumby ride :(

I too wish we could have a snow day! I lived in Wichita, KS for 8 years and never had a blizzard, let alone TWO in a weeks time! Thinking of all you ladies who are in the path of the storm.
  • We're getting blasted in Chicago area right now.  High winds and snow.
  • I'm outside of Chicago and you'd swear this was Florida. People are acting like this is the first snow we have ever had. My office closed at noon when there was less than 1/2 inch down. Lucky me, I live 2.5 miles away and have 4 wheel drive so I got to stay. I just got home now and the roads were fine. I was going 50 MPH. But I got some quiet time to catch up! :)
  • beardown, where are you?  I'm in western suburbs and it's very heavy.  I was at work but let off early since all patients canceled.  The ride home wasn't too bad and it looked like it was slowing.  I went to library and when I came out it was like a snow globe outside.  And it seems like it's coming down heavier right now.
  • I'm in the western suburbs too - Naperville/Aurora. It looked super heavy from like 1-3 but there wasn't much down when they closed the office at noon. The roads were very well plowed when I left at 3:30. I took the dog out a while ago and it was coming down pretty good again. They're plowing pretty well.
  • I'm in Wheaton!  H has been plowing since 1 PM.  They're quitting for a few hours to get some rest because they'll go back at midnight and plow all night.

<div>Edmonton.  I always laugh when Pearson Airport closes over 10cm of snow.  I know it's all about infrastructure and the ability to clear the snow, but I think, really??  Get out and shovel for 10 minutes and get back to work.  You in Canada too??</div>
