[QUOTE]And besides, the only reason that we're not married is because we're waiting to finish school. GO SENIORS '11!! I can't wait until I'm finished with high school. Plus our parents won't sign the permission for us to get married before 18. I can't stand them sometimes!

Hey Audgie, since we live in the same town, ya'll just come with me and I'll pretend to be your mommy (since I'm old and until I got engaged a few months ago, apparently I was a spinster) and I'll sign that permission slip for you <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />- then we'll go out and plan the most super-duperest Vegas wedding we can on a cheap budget (cause apparently my hard-working man is cheap since he decided not to go into debt for my ring and got me the most beautiful white sapphire).  Oooh and we can just get you a combo prom/wedding dress - it'll be perfect!

Well, as long as mommy lets you cross the street by yourself, then I think it'll be ok.  Make sure to bring your imaginary FBD so he can be the ring bearer.

OMG! Imaginary FBD was soooo yesterday!! Today, I gotz me a real man!! He lays on the couch all day watchin TV... he's saving up his disability checks to buy me a big, honkin' fake ring from QVC!! Then we're gonna go to the JOP and get hitched cuz I told him that I was pregnant and he said he would stay with me forever and ever and ever.... That was a good idea for me to tell him I was pregnant right?? cuz obviously I'd have to trick this sucka into marryin me otherwise I'd end up alone and miserable... and posting on Not Engaged Yet for the rest of my life! We wouldn't want that... because it really upsets OP and you know we all give a crap what she thinks!!

Sunnshyne Bride: Just CLARIFYING..i'm engaged..our wedding is set for June 2011.

Now. To say what I'm here to say to you.

Say there is this man. This man that would do ANYTHING for his best friend and partner in life. They knew they couldn't spend their lives without each other. He, a hard-working journeyman electrician who had recently been laid off for the season..so he got another job making less money than on unemployment..but at least he was out there working instead of sitting at home, and she, a woman who holds 2 jobs..one from 7-3 and another from 4-10 (a 30 minute drive home), so she no longer gets home from her second job and has to go to bed to get enough rest to go to her first job. Between the both of them..making just enough to pay for their living expenses and other medical bills. But these two....who feel SO STRONGLY for each other..who have spent so many years and built so many memories together..who know they're meant for each other and nothing will get in the way of them becoming husband and wife. They know they can't afford a traditional wedding, or even an engagement ring, so one day..she comes home from her second job, COMPLETELY exhausted..just wanting to go to bed. She walks through the door..and there he is..the man of her dreams, on his knee with a speech he had worked on all night. She doesn't remember a word he says because she's so in shock of what was happening..he was expressing his love for her and proposing to spend the rest of their lives together....and he slips a ring on her finger. He said he can't afford a "real" ring yet but someday he will give her the ring she deserves. She doesn't care that he put a FAKE DIAMOND ring on her finger. Marriage has NOTHING to do with the sparkle on her finger. A happy marriage has EVERYTHING to do with the sparkle they have inside for each other.

So..IF by chance, you were in this same situation (although..I know it's hard to picture yourself there being you're so materialistic..), tell me you wouldn't say you'll marry him. Although most girls dream of their wedding since they're..well..like FIVE..when they had their dream wedding in the front lawn, wearing some old dress, marrying a boy they like..but they're SO happy at the time. A wedding is a wedding. It's the marriage that matters most. Two people who are so madly in love vowing to spend the rest of their lives together.

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Suck it. Leave this page continuing to be materialistic and selfish. Good luck in your marriage.

Some people really think that just because they are engaged it means they are better than others. That's sad. Anyone that gets engaged for this reason might want to rethink before getting married, because getting ready for marriage is not just about finding dresses, booking venues, picking colors, bridesmaids, honeymoon etc.
Most people here are not on NEY to get dresses, venues, etc unless they are really engaged. Its true that there are those that get carried away in booking venues, finding dresses, etc, but that's their problem.
Focus on planning your MARRIAGE (wedding and after wedding) not on status of other Knotties.

Maybe it is your relationship that is not yet "that serious or commited" and you have grown spiteful.  I know people are harsh but you are just in a world all your own.

My fiancee & I only 'officially' got engaged two years ago (because that's when he bought me my REAL diamond, not CZ) but we'd been talking about it & planning it for 3 years.  However, we haven't yet gotten married, because he's in school & will finish next year.  So, maybe I'm one of those bitchy 'spinsters' too.

Get a life, not everybody can afford a diamond immediately, especially in this economy.  Some people go on LOVE, rather than materialistic BS.  Good luck in life, you'll be needing it. :-)

As the PPs have pointed out, it is ridiculous to assume that people who are dating are not in committed relationships; how would you characterize your relationship the day before you became engaged? (I am assuming you are engaged, but perhaps you are not); I hope that you already felt committed before you accepted the proposal.

Equally ridiculous is the assumption that all married people ARE highly committed to their relationships, because the last time I checked, about half of marriages end in divorce.

Oh Crap.  Of course this idiot has to be from NJ.  I would like to personally apologize for my state.  The views expressed are solely those of the OP.  NJ has been known to sometimes allow stupid people to reside here.  Mostly her and sammi "sweetheart".

I would have never thought there would people out there who would troll community boards on a wedding website.  Whatever happened to finding a normal hobby?
