Am I odd?

Hello, I'm new to this whole knotthing but I was just curious as to do you people think I'm odd when I'm not yet engaged but still wanting to plan every last detail of my wedding? I really love to plan ahead and considering we have been talking about getting engaged for the past year and a half I find myself daydreaming about our wedding day each and every day. I just wanted to get some insight. I'm madly in love with my boyfriend and trying to be as patient as I can but after nearly 4 years of dating, I'm ready to at least be engaged. Does anyone out there relate to what I'm going through?

I would appreciate any sort of feedback on this post!

thnx againSmile

Re: Am I odd?

  • I think it is perfectly normal to dream about your wedding day, what you are going to wear, the colors you want, the flowers, cake, etc, but it starts to become weird when you contact venues, set-up appointments and book vendors when your boyfriend hasn't even popped the question.

My H and I had dated 8 years before he asked me so needless to say I was eager as well but everything I thought I had wanted in a wedding went out the window the moment he asked me because not only do you have to take into account what you want on your big day you also have to take into account what he wants as well.

    Good luck!

  • Listen to MilkDuds - she knows what she is talking about.

Daydreaming about your dream wedding from time to time is normal, but don't do any actual planning until the proposal.

Just curious, why have you talked about getting engaged for a year and a half?  There is nothing wrong with a long engagement, either.  Maybe you two need to sit down and make sure you are both still on the same page.

  • To be honest, it sounds like you're more in love with the idea of a wedding than with the marriage that comes after it. It makes me wonder how old you are. I mean, I got married at 23 and I felt barely old enough for it then even though I'd wanted to marry my H for most of the 5.5 years we dated.

[QUOTE]In Response to Am I odd? : I think it's OK to have a few ideas of the type of wedding you want, but all out planning before an engagement makes no sense to me.  Does your boyfriend know you are already gung-ho on planning the wedding? I'd back it down a few notches or I feel like you'll suck all the enjoyment out of actually being engaged OR you could push your boyfriend away because he feels pressured.

<div>Thank you for your honesty. Yeah I agree with you, and I'm not calling venues or anything like that. Just coming up with colors, themes, and a rough draft guest list of who all I want to invite. </div>

  • I agree with MilkDuds a guest list is way too premature for a hypothetical wedding.  It is perfectly fine to dream but when the time does come reality is going to smack you in the face.

    Yeah, Duds is wise.

You might be planning your perfect wedding, but you have to keep in mind that BF/FI might have his own idea of what he wants in a wedding and it might be completely different than what you are planning.
