question re wedding gifts

I am wondering... how much do you guys generally spend per couple when giving a wedding gift?  I have gotten a few gifts so far, and I am wondering if what I usually give is totally off base and I need to adjust.... So, generally (of course, it depends on how close you are with the person), what do you give?

Usually $150-200.  More for really close friends or family, or $ and a personalized gift.

Probably about the same as what MH said.  $150-$200.  More for immediate family or best friends.

I will admit though that we received a few checks for $50-100 from couples at our wedding.

If it's just me in the 100 range, if it's me and DH 200. If it is a very close family member (sibling) more.

I voted, I would like to give more...I feel bad...

Sadly I am getting no loans or assistance for grad school so 90% of my money goes to that... I try my best to give good gifts :-(

Usually around 200-250. More for family, less for those super random wedding invites.

Lately, I've been IN the wedding, so I feel like after bridal shower, b-party, dress, shoe, etc etc... The wedding gift is usually in the $75-100 range.  Now that I'm more stable and making more money it'll probably go up depending on who it is.

Usually $200 is the signature, more for close friend or family.... we figure $100 a person.. even though we should really up it as we know most places are $120-150 a person...

I ususally give about 150-200.  I remember when I was getting married that I had some friends telling me that you're supposed to "cover your meal".   I thought that was crazy.  It's not the guests fault that the bride and groom have money to spend x amount per plate.  I think a bride and groom spend what they can afford and should not expect to make it back in gifts.

We received gifts a few gifts for 50 all the way up to shocking amounts that we didn't expect.  Judging from who gave which amount, we knew that each person/couple gave us what they could afford at the time.  We were thankful for every dollar and even for non monetary gifts b/c they were all heartfelt.

I ususally do about $200 for a couple, but since we have so many weddings this year, it's more like $150.
