Independence Harbor Brides!

Is anyone getting married/has anyone been married at Independence Harbor in Assonet, MA?  I'm getting married there this August and wanted to know what other people thought about the venue!

Also, does anyone have any make-up artist suggestions from the area?  Possibly someone who does airbrushing?

I would recommend Special Event Beauty. They are South Shore, so it wouldn't be super far for them. A lot of the ladies here have used them and given them good reviews.

I'm curious to hear about Independence Harbor as well.  I'm looking for a venue for ceremony and reception, and it's so beautiful.  Also, a bunch of the places for ceremonies and receptions you seem to have to hire your own caterers for or the ceremony locations are less than beautiful.

I'm especially interested in any experiences with the bar.  From their menu, it seems like it is either a choice of a totally open bar or a totally cash bar?  So they don't have any options to do a well bar, or just beer and wine or something like that?  Because while I know it's rude and tacky to have a cash bar, I feel like if I went ahead and have an open bar they are going to end up sending me a bill for an additional $10k or something like that  I'm only planning on about 100 guests or so, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad, but not being able to budget for it makes me nervous.  I thought of maybe booking a morning wedding instead so that might make people less inclined to drink as much.

I looked there but they have a high per person minimum, I think around 150, so you might want to check that out.  A cash bar isn't tacky especially if you are paying for the wedding yourself or on a small budget.  People shouldn't go to a wedding expecting an open bar either.

Be careful saying that here.  Before I was on here I didn't realize how bad people look at Cash Bars.  Because almost every single function I had ever been too except for my brother's wedding had them.  Sometimes I see brides from Boston say they have seen the norm be Cash Bars and some say they've never been to one with a Cash Bar.  I get what people mean when they say that you're guests shouldn't be made to pay for anything, but I feel like if you have no bar (which I'm not sure is even an option at Independence), that people would be more ticked than at a cash bar.

Anyways, the person minimum isn't terrible because we want to have our wedding on a Sunday and I think their per person minimum on Sundays is 100.  Anyways, their cover charge for the difference isn't that expensive compared to most places around here.

I got married at IH in July 2010 and it was a wonderful experience!! I would highly recommend IH. The only thing that was a little negative from the experience was the wedding planner. Their customer service skills weren't the best, and they just plain weren't "pleasant" in general. But, everything I asked for was accomplished, and on my actual wedding day the wedding coordinator was fabulous for keeping everything on track and running the wedding smoothly. Also, they set up my decorations more beautiful than I could have even imagined!  The other negative was that you werent allowed on the grounds until 30 min before your scheduled time no exceptions-. The bride & groom werent even allowed to get there early for pictures which made no sense to me. But my guests are still raving about how wonderful the food was, and how beautiful the experience was there. I got married on a Thursday to save some $ and many of my guests made a long weekend of it and the day of the week was less of an issue than I thought it would be. Plus, the guest minimum was lower on a Thursday. I thought IH was extremely reasonable for what you get. Good luck!
