Caught these vendors bluffing!!

So I'm still in the early stages of planning but I wanted to get hotel blocks because my wedding is on a holiday weekend and home game (big college town) and I had my first experience...I caught this hotel bluffing ya'll! When I first called they gave me a great deal but they had to get back with me due to the special weekend. They called back and said my guests can only get the rate if they booked the entire 3 day weekend. Well that wasn't cool and I said ok no thanks. I was sweating because most of the hotels told me the same. Well 2 days later they called back, said they spoke with the GM and they'd be GLAD to host my wedding guests!!! Yay!! Praise the Lord. But now I'm going to prepare myself for the other vendors.....Has anyone else called a vendor on their BLUFF?? Let me know!

I don't think this was a bluff. Unless your reception is taking place at the hotel, I can see them only applying the special rate if a guest booked all 3 days. It's business and it makes sense.

For example, if they know for a fact they are going to get business from people wanting to go to this game and its a holiday weekend, they are taking a big chance on your room block. Your guests may or may not decide to stay there. So that's a chunk of rooms they cannot sell to other guests in anticipation that your wedding guests may or may not book. Therefor, to have a stronger guarantee on their profit, they make guests book all 3 days for the discounted rate.

But its good that they changed their mind and called you back!

I sorta agree with PP... BUT there are some sales people that are out there bluffing.

Then you just walk away and like used car salesmen they will call you back... usually....

But in this case from the way you told the story they may have not wanted to do it. In Vegas on holiday weeks the major hotels pretty much all require a certain amount of nights to guarantee they are filled for the big weekends... so I am not surprised.

BUT I am SUPER excited everything worked out

Lol...Not bursting your bubble at all!! You definitely got a good deal!

I think my way of thinking came from a situation with our room blocks. We blocked rooms at the venue where our reception was held (The Westin Hotel) and across the street at the Marriott. Well days before our wedding, I got a call from the Marriott. They were concerned that our wedding had been cancelled or something was wrong...because NO ONE booked there. However, we had like 60 rooms booked at The Westin. I felt so bad for that Marriott guy. Point being..they held those rooms for us for months only to have no one book. I still feel bad.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif" border="0" alt="Cry" title="Cry" />

    Aww don't feel bad!

My venue was only able to give me blocks the night of my wedding because they are directly across from the football stadium. So I have two others nearby that gave me the whole weekend and provide shuttle to my venue! But I know all the hotels will be booked regardless of my little 'ol weddin' LOL
