Is this okay?

We are having a DW at a lake/beach. It is very small - family and a couple of friends, probably ~40 including children.

We are having a big cookout the day of the wedding, probably eating around 3-4.

Then, the actualy ceremony will be later at sunset, followed by heavy hors d'oevres.

Is this okay, or should we try to serve a full meal at the reception as well?

TIA!

I think it's ok. As long as your guests know they will be eating the meal before the ceremony. Also are you serving sweets after the ceremony? If not, it would be a good idea to give them at least a couple options for sweets.

I agree with PP.  As long as they know about the cook out before hand then just having some finger foods afterwards and dessert would be great!

Thanks! Yes, they know about the cookout! I hadn't really thought about any other sweets other than our cake - should I have more? Hmmm, maybe I need to think of some sweets for the cookout, too?
