Videographer?

HI girls, are yall having a videographer? Just curious to what everyone is doing, and if yall think it is worth spending the money on.

Re: Videographer?

  • We didn't.  I just didn't think we'd ever watch the video.  Our DJ brought a camcorder and sent us the footage, and we watched it once, so that kind of proved my theory.  LOL.
  • We didn't.

    Same reason as heels.

Robert's mom had SIL's boyfriend film some parts and we still haven't even watched that!  She reminds us every time we come over, and we still don't watch it.
  • We're not having one.  Persoanlly, I think it's a waste of money.

  • We didn't have one, I didn't really see a need for it.  Anything a wedding videographer puts together is going to be cheesy anyway.

  • We did and I actually do watch it and the family seems to like it, especially the highlight part.  H's Grandma wanted to watch the whole ceremony even though she was there.  It was a little weird but cute.  I like to watch it when H is away on work trips.  I found a great deal, though, so it wasn't too much.  (Recent college grad starting a business)

  • We are having one, because we live in Canada and are getting married in the US. We wanted to have it so that we could show our close friends and family who can't make the trip. A lot of my FI's family can't make it to the actual wedding and are excited to watch a DVD later on.

  • Not having one.  It's waste of money, in my opinion because I don't like to see myself in video! My friend is insistent that I'll want footage in the future, so she is going to use her camera to tape the ceremony.  I prefer photographs.  They are classier and you can look at them all the time & with ease!
  • We are probably going to have one FI thinks he will want to watch it, and his grandmother might not be able to come and she would want to see it when we visit her on our honeymoon.  I wouldn't have chosen to, but those seem like good reasons and he thinks its important

  • I'm still debating myself whether I want one or not.  I really don't want to spend the money on it.  The FI wants to hand his cousin a camcorder and have him tape it.  We have a great photographer so I think we'll be okay.

[QUOTE]My sister got one and it was the best investment she made for the whole wedding.  Pictures are great, but you don't hear your vows in the pictures.  And pictures show people dancing, but you don't hear the song they're dancing to, like the carefully chosen first dance song. And when you see pics of the bouquet being tossed, they're nice, but not the same as hearing the girls laugh and scream.  When you get crappy shaky footage from a relative, yeah, maybe you'll never watch.  But  a professional wedding video is altogether different.  She's watched it numerous times, and shown friends and family lots of times. And for people who she knows won't want to watch a two hour video, she shows them the highlights montage.  I'm definitely getting one.  I can't imagine spending $10, 000 on a wedding, then not spending $900 to have it captured forever.

    Hmmmm. Interesting.

Everyone that I've ever known that's gone the videographer route has regretted spending the money on it. They never watch the video and wish they had spent the money on other things. IMO, totally not worth it.
  • Nikki is right. Although, I'm pretty sure Canadian videographers are much better than American ones, especially down here in the hillbilly south. I didn't waste my money on one at my hick shindig. Cousin Eddie just stood beside the preacher and caught it on his prepaid phone cam. Worked for us! He was really happy he wasn't invited to the meal part of the reception, though, so he didn't have to tape us eating and socializing and stuff. He got to grap a chicken out of the yard by the neck and fry that up instead.
  • I think we're going to hire a caricature artist instead of a photog or videographer.  It'll be totally yoo-neek and we'll have the best moments captured ever!!!  Besides, I know they work fast - I've seen them on the streets of Manhattan and at amusement parks and stuff.

  • I'm going to hire this guy I know. I saw his work on the news one time, he's still an amatuer, but I think it's total worth it. Here is some of his work:

  • I think I'm going to go ahead and do it, since I've paid for everything else and have a little money left to do it with....and I was able to negotiate a great deal for $500.00 for 5 hours.  We are having a very basic wedding and I don't want a lot of extras and junk that they put in the packages to appeal to most people...I think the sample video with all the fancy stuff is waaaay corny and dumb.  I just want the ceremony recorded so I can watch it someday and maybe catch a glimpse of dead relatives for my kids.
  • We are doing it - simply because none of our friends or family will be there. We are going to send copies of the DVDs to the families so they can "attend" the wedding after the fact.

  • We actually just signed the contract for one yesterday. For me its a nice addition to our wedding. For one, we have so much of our family that will be participating in the wedding be it singing, preaching, performing, etc. just that on video is priceless. Also, from what I hear/seen the wedding day is such a blur and I would love to go back and watch the ceremony and see our family celebrating. While it's not something I will watch everyday..being able to have something to look back on and see family talking and dancing(something that photos can't do) for years to come is very worth it to me!

    All You Need Is Love....
  • We recently attended a wedding for a family friend, and it was an over-the-top wedding that cost about $70,000. Since then, the mother of the bride has mentioned several times that they wish they'd had a videographer. They were over budget and didn't want to spend the money, and now they're regretting it. My mom took this advice so seriously that she offered to pay for our videographer since it wasn't in the original budget. We found one that is about $1000.

Dear lord, momo. Are you really that dull that those are the best put downs that you can think of? I used to think you were smart. Mean and a little crazy, but definitely intelligent. Not so much anymore.
  • I'm on a budget and only have a certain amount of money to 'capture' the wedding. I considered a videographer, but realized I would get two ok vendors or or the photographer that I really liked. My Uncle has a really nice camera and I think I may ask him to bring it with him, and set it up and have him or my DOC hit the record button for just the ceremony. I think you need to think about yourself...are you honestly the type of person who would watch the video, or would it sit on the shelf? If you would watch it, it's a great idea for you and I would try and work it into the budget.

Also, for those of you doing one for your DW, I think that is so cool. Such a great way to get the wedding of your dreams and share it with your family.

Can you video tape yourself saying that, and then post it here, so everyone in  your tacky little corner of the world can see who you are, what kind of fucking loon they'd be dealing with by hiring you, and not use you for their tacky, tiered weddings, Momo? Thanks! :)
  • Nikki, please check your PMs.
  • I think attractive people like yourself are happy with them.  It's just ugly people who don't.
  • We are having one... I wish that I could watch my parents' wedding and I want to be able to let my kids have the opportunity to see what their parents' big day was like. :)  Also, we're getting married in my state and having a reception a few months later up in his...and it'd be nice to be able to share our day with the people who couldn't make it to the wedding.

BUT I would not have gotten a professional if I hadn't found one at such a good price.  Our DJ has a friend who's just breaking off on his own, so he's incredibly decent for full footage, two cameras, edited DVDs and everything...otherwise I would've at least gotten a friend to video it so I could at least have the option to watch it later if I wanted.

  • We're having one.  Some of my FI's older relatives might not make it out to our wedding, so we want to be able to show them pictures and videos.

Also, while I can't imagine watching the video anytime soon, I think it would be great to have 20-30 years later to watch with our kids and/or show at an anniversary party.  I'd like to walk down memory lane someday and hear the speeches again and see my FI's 80 year old uncle salsa with his 78 year old wife.
