New Husband Sick and Can't Go on Honey Moon

We postponed leaving for a short stay on Nantucket after our Cape Wedding for a few days to entertain family and friends from Europe.  Now Hubby is sick with Strep Throat and we have to forfeit reservations at $500 night!!  Looking for some wise words from brides to help me during sad time.

Re: New Husband Sick and Can't Go on Honey Moon

  • Did you get travel insurance?

I'm sorry this happened to you.
  • antibiotics? i wouldn't stay home b/c of strep. it's contageous for only a day if treated properly. will the hotel save reservations for another day iwth a doctors note?

  • Yeah why not just get an Rx and go anyway, he'll start feeling better within hours. This is nothing to cancel a honeymoon over.
  • I would still go.  As PP have said, it's only contagious for 24 as long as you have the antibiotics.  Usually after 2 days the person starts feeling better.

  • I was coming down with it the day I got engaged. FI was super careful to make sure I went to the doctor that morning! I got Rx in the am, took a dose, and got super sick 2 hours after our engagement (101 fever). I went to bed at like 8 that night, was lazy in bed, feeling okay but just unable to talk/swallow for a day. I woke up the next day and was able to get up and study. I definitely wouldn't skip a honeymoon for it!
  • Yeah, as the other ladies have said, get an antibiotic and still go. If he's feeling super crappy, go to the dr, tell them the situation, and ask to get a shot of penicillin or something of the sort to get him a jump-start on healing, and he'll feel better in a day, guaranteed. Otherwise just get a z-pack, see if the dr can give you a 3 day one, and he'll be fine in 3 days. Either way, no reason to cancel the honeymoon. Especially at $500 a night.
  • There's absolutely no need to cancel your honeymoon over a Strep throat; you'll really regret doing that. Let us know how things work out...
