Question on blocking hotel rooms

Hi,

I am wondering if I should include either a list of nearby hotels from our wedding venue and/or block off a number of rooms at a specific hotel near our wedding venue.  We are getting married during the day.  The reception ends at 5 p.m. and almost all of our guests are local to the venue (local meaning under an hour).  Is it necessary to provide the accomodations list or can I just skip this?  I'm also not sure if I do block off a number of rooms, and not all of the rooms are filled by guests, if the hotel charges us any sort of fee or penalty.

Thanks!

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms

  • it's important to ask the hotel about unused rooms and fees before you reserve a block.  I'm lucky in there is really only one decent hotel in my area.  I am also having a day wedding, and have few out of town guests.  I added information on my website about the hotel, but will not be doing any inserts.  Seeing as my dad/step mom, sister, and aunt/uncle are the only sets of out of town guests, I simply talked to them on the phone.  Good luck and happy planning.
  • We didn't block off rooms because we only had 2 out of town guests.  About 3 people got hotel rooms but they did it on their own.

  • You could try hotelplanner.com like we did. You tell them when where and about how many rooms and hotels in the area leave bids for you to review and pick one if you want. We ended up blocking 20 rooms for two nights(quite a few OOT) and what ever doesnt get used within a month goes back to the hotel to sell so we dont get charged for them. So the room are $30 cheaper for each guest if they stay there plus if 10 rooms get books we get a free room :)
