outfits - please tell me...

that i am not the only one who is NOT buying a new outfit for every party. I just can't justify spending all that extra money. I think i may for the bachelorette party but not the showers. G already has a hard time with how much i am spending on beauty (let's face it, the men get shafted) so i don't want to add more to that.

Is there anyone else not buying a bunch of new clothes?

Re: outfits - please tell me...

  • I'm not!  I considered it, but can't really afford it right now, and the bridal shower is a surprise anyway, so yeah...I don't really wear dresses anyway, and tend to end up feeling really uncomfortable when I do, so we'll see what happens for the bachelorette party as well.  If I do dress up for either, it'll be in clothes I already own.

  • I spent $100 on a dress for my shower. However, I am only having one shower and we have two other weddings to attend besides our in the month of June. So I plan on wearing it to those also.

  • I bought 2 new dresses but only because they were each only about $30 and I wanted white. However I definitely don't think you need to buy anything
  • I bought one dress on sale for $30 plus free shipping. My older sister graduates college mid May and my younger brother graduates high school end of May so I'll probably double up on new dresses
  • I got one dress that I will probably wear to both showers.  There will only be MAYBE 2 people at both and they won't care.  I actually used a gift card from Christmas. I had to return something that didn't fit and fell in love with this dress!

  • If I can find something really cheap I might buy an outfit but in all likelihood I'm just going to borrow something to wear from my sister.

  • I bought a dress for the rehearsal dinner because it was $60 and I loved it. It's probably something I would have bought even without a place to wear it. For my showers, probably wearing things I already have.
    Anniversary
  • I'll probably be buying something for the RD and our after party (bonfire so I don't want my wedding dress to smell like campfire).  For my shower and bachelorette, no one is telling me anything about them .... so I won't be buying anything new unless I'm told what I need.

Nope, you're not alone. I'll never understand buying a new dress for the sole purpose of wearing it once, outside of my wedding dress.
  • I will probably only be buying a new dress for the rehearsal - mainly because our dinner will be at a very nice restaurant and I don't have a summer dress that fits me anymore (good problem to have!).

<div>Even though some are buying a new dress for wedding festivites, that doesn't always mean they never intend to wear them again. </div><div>
</div><div>Example: I stated above that I will be buying a dress for our after party because I don't want my wedding dress to smell like campfire.  I still want to wear a white dress since it is my wedding day.  I won't wear the dress I get prior to this day, but I do intend to wear it as a summer dress following the wedding.  I often look for clothes that I can wear to work as well.  Many of the dresses I purchase are work appropriate with maybe a cardigan over them.</div>
  • I don't think I am; I wore a dress I already owned to my engagement party and I'm buying a new blouse for my shower. The bachelorette party is at a club at a casino and I'm buying a new dress for that.

The wedding dress will not be worn just once - I'm dying it blue to wear to a friend's wedding in September and again for a party in Barbados my parents are hosting.

  • I wouldn't have purchased new dresses for myself unless they were on super sale.  My mother got me a dress for the rehearsal and shower. I will most definitely wear them again, I just don't really have any summery dresses that aren't cotton and from HS.

Oh, I know. There are just A LOT of girls I know IRL who do buy dresses for one purpose and never wear them again. It boggles my mind. I own plenty of dresses already and I don't really care which one I wear to my pre-wedding parties. Just my personal preference.
  • Not sure yet. I love sun dresses (which means I have a closet full) so most likely I will just wear something I already own. However, my mom and I are going to be headed to the outlets in a couple of weeks so if I found a really good deal I might buy something.

  • I'm not either. I am going shopping in my closet and will wear something I already have. I can't spend the money on new clothes. The real world is too expensive and I don't have the luxury of shopping for new clothes all the time.

  • Did my post seriously get eaten? I basically said I would not buy anything unless it was super on sale, but my mother got them for me.  I didn't really have any dresses that were appropriate, most were cotton from HS.
  • The only dress I'm buying is a short white one for our last dance/exit. FI bout me a dress for Christmas that I've been wearing as much as I can ad I plan to wear that for my shower. I bought a sundress last summer that I plan to wear for the rehearsal. I need to leave my dress at the venue for my mom to take home, which is the only reason why I'm buying a dress for that. I love dresses, but I have so few reasons to wear them that I try to limit the number of them in my closet. Same goes for cute shoes and cute tops (oh, the life of an engineer- jeans are every day wear at my office).

  • I'm obsessed with Lilly Pulitzer and my bridesmaids are wearing her dresses for the wedding. My FI bought me a dress for my birthday, my mom bought me a dress and I bought two dresses and a skirt. I'm having 3 showers, a bridal luncheon and a rehearsal dinner.

  • I don't think I am having any "events" so no new dresses for me. I will however be buying a crapload of clothes for the HM because I don't own shorts or island wear. And about 30 gallons of sunblock.

  • Heck, I'm not even wearing a dress to my bachelorette party. It will be more similar (or exact) to what I'm wearing in my current sig. :)

Same Reds game as FI's Bachelor party on different ends of the ballpark and a low-key lunch party at someone's house before hand.
  • I'm not! I got a couple new dresses on sale at JCrew and VS, but they are not for the showers or bachelorette party. I plan to wear whatever I feel like wearing that day!

  • I'm not!

I actually already have to white sundresses to wear to each shower. I actually think I'm going to wear a dress I already have for my bachelorette party too...it just needs to be altered!

I am getting a new dress for my rehearsal dinner and bridal luncheon though.
