That is also my problem. I'm bored so I immediately want to eat chocolate and I have zero self control LOL.

On a brighter note, Sears just called and are delivering our new bed tomorrow between 930 and 1130! WOO! We will see if they actually come in that time frame.

New house for Amer, new bed for Lemma...it's gonna be a great Frisky Friday!

I'm chillaxing at home, so glad that tomorrow is Friday.  I have a sort of fun story from school today, but it's kind of Disney-related..mainly it just proves how sad/deprived kids are these days. Do I tell, or are you all rolling your eyes because I'm talking about Disney AGAIN?

So today in English I'm teaching about trickstr tales - we just started a unit on folktales, fables, etc.  We spend some time talking about Anansi the Spider in Africa, and my other example that I decided to share for the kids were a Br'er Rabbit tale - fun for me because they are the stories that Splash Mountain at WDW is based on.  (Well, really, Spalsh Mountain is based on Song of the South, which itself is based on the Br'er Rabbit/Uncle Remus tales, but since Disney now thinks that movie is racist we don't talk about it anymore.)  Anyway, I'm all excited to share this with the kids, but it turns out that:

    1) A signficant handful of kids have been to Disney, ridden Splash Mountain, but had no idea that Br'er Rabbit was involved until explained everything after reading the story (kind of what I was going for)

    2) A snigifncant portion has never been to Disney, but kid of sort of had heard of Spalsh Mountain

    3) A huge majority of the class had no idea what I was talking about and I literally had to show them a picture of Splash Mountain t give them an idea of what the rest of us were getting at.

Perhaps this is because my childhood was colored by semi-frequent trips down there starting when I was 2...but how do you not even know what Splash Mountain is?  Remember - these are also mainly rich white Main Line kids we are talking about :P

I could never.  Disney is even more fun as a grownup ;)

Seriously, though - am I freak for thinking that Splash Mountain is common pop culture knowledge?

N0, I think I knew what Splash Mountian was when I was a kid.  I probably couldn't describe what it physcially looked like (still couldn't) but I knew what it was

I've never been to Disney (sad face). But I DO know what Splash Mountain is. So no, you are not a freak <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

Also, FI and I are planning on going to Disney for our 1 year anniversary! Woo!

If not today, you best make that video on official move-in day, Amer!

I am always just amazed at the pop culture benchmarks for me that my kids are clueless on.  I mean, I am closer in age to my kdis than I am to some of my co-workers, but yet there is SO much they don't know.  I'm not talking stuff insular to my generation, like...Ren and Stimpy Carmen Sandiego.  I'm talking like, the Muppets. And even the ones who do know the Muppets are always surprised that they have a connection to Elmo, Big Bird, etc.  We watch the Muppet Christmas Carol every year in 6th grade as part of a Dickens unit in reading and there are huge numbers of kids who look at it like "Why are there frogs and chickens and pigs and a weird blue guy?  What are these people ON?"

Many of them also do not know that My Little Pony and Transformers are not new toys/movies/etc.

I have been supremely lazy today.  Other than going for an intake to get a new therapist and doinng laundry, I've done nothing.

And I haven't even folded the laundry.  It's still in the baskets.  I'm telling myself it's because I'm still tired from all the traveling we did yesterday.

    Beagle - I KNOW.

The good news is that - have you heard - there is a new Muppet movie coming out next year that is supposed to re-start the franchise.  Apparently it got greenlt after that Bohemian Rhapsody video went viral last year. The best part is that Jason Segel is writing/starring in it.

I cannot WAIT for the Muppet movie, and I have a major crush on Jason Segel.

I love the Muppets.  When I was a counselor, I had this (clicky) book in my office, and people loved it.

True story: for my public speaking class in college I did a tribute speech to Jim Henson and got a standing ovation from everyone at the end ;)

Beagle, I forget if you missed the convo here about cancelled TV shows not long ago: have you seen Freaks and Geeks?  <3 Jason Segel.  But <3<3<3 James Franco.

I have actually never seen Freaks and Geeks.  Will add to Netflix list.

And did you hear back from anyone?  I can do it tomorrow if you want.

Do you mean about the Book of Mormon tickets?  I haven't yet.  That would be awesome, as I need to clean tomorrow afternoon and then entertain my high school besites...we are going out to dinner in honor of my MoH, who defended her doctoral thesis a couple of weeks ago.  *happy dance* drink - would you and Chris for sure be in?  If so we are 12 people.

    Hi!

Amer - My first trip to Disney was my HS Sr. trip too! And All About Steve is terrible.  Don't waste your time.

LRM - I apologize, but I skipped over your school story... not because of Disney but because I don't find kid stories cute.  My bad.
