  I get that, but sometimes you don't have a choice on where you are going or the budget.  When I was traveling for work there was only so much I could expense and I might want to know whether or not to pay out of pocket. 
  
  I guess it's a good thing I don't eat at fancy restaurants often anymore.

  no story, really. 
  
  just went out to dinner with a few friends and the server did not state pricing, which sparked a conversation about wondering what the pricing was and whether we should ask him to come back and tell us, and then dismiss him again while we decided.
  
  i do have another story about a server.  in a minute.
