Does anyone live in Florida?

My FI got offered a job in Clearwater this week. (YAY!)

He has until Monday to decide, but we're leaning towards accepting it.
Earlier this week we had a long talk and decided that we were going to postpone our wedding for a while so we can be more prepared.
One of the reasons is because of the job. It would cost quite a bit of money to move, and we're still trying to decide if its worth it.

Does anyone live around there, or has been there and has any insight on the area?

Edit: sorry if my post is all over the place, I have a million thoughts going through my mind right now and its kind of hard to get them straight.

  • My FI's cousin just moved to Florida, and she and her FI are doing really, really well down there - the cost of living is much more reasonable than it is in NY (where they were living) and they're really enjoying it.  (Frankly, we visited them recently and are slightly jealous.)  If the job is the right opportunity for your FI, I'd vote go for it.  :-)

  • Your fiance's company isn't giving him much time to make his decision! I was, raised & still live FL but I'm about 2 & half hours south of Clearwater.

Clearwater is a beautiful area & has quite a few nice residential areas, great weather & beautiful beaches. Definitely a nice place to live.Smile
  • I live there and love it. I like this place called bens chilli bowl it's wonderful. I also like buffalo wildwings for food. Don't know if you realize it but we're the home of jell-o. Also the movie Farris Bullers day off was filmed in the hart of our town. We like to call it the only place that matters in Florida other then Miami. You're gonna love it!
  • Lizzie - I happened to see this on th CFL board so I did answer you there  =-)

thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I'm leaning towards moving there, but we just have to wait and see what happens with another interview he has with Alexandria, VA. (He's on a phone interview right now)
He is excited for that one, but I don't know if I want to move to an area that expensive.

  • I'd go with Florida!

Clearwater is a great area. You're close to Tampa, the beach is beautiful, and the cost of living is reasonable.

I'm not from Florida, but my parents own a condo in the Clearwater area so we spend a lot of time there. The people are super friendly, there are some great restaurants and shopping. I think you'd really enjoy it!

  • I live about 30 minutes away from Clearwater, and it's a wonderful area. Good schools, low crime rate- it's a great (albiet small) town. :) Good luck with whatever you and your FI choose!
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this..

  • I'm about 45 min away from Clearwater Beach over in the New Port Richey/Trinity area. I love it. I commute to Tampa daily and some days it takes an hour each way for where I have to go. If you are not opposed to toll roads you can get places a lot faster.

Congrats! Take the job, but I reccomend living in Tampa not Clearwater, more to do, younger people, more lively. Depending on where in Clearwater it is, the commute would not be bad.
