Making my budget realistic

My budget started out non-existent and when we realized how many guests (min) we would have to have there, we upp'd our budget. It was still aggressively tight but workable.

But there are some things that we did not want to compromise on and now that we are starting to get some "real" pricing in, that has us now re-evaluating our budget again. We can certainly afford more, without having to touch our existing savings, it will just limit how much we will be able to save going forward from now until the wedding.

Im still comfortable with what we're spending because we're not making frivilous choices or decisions, still keeping things to as much of a minimum as possible but still have the personal touches that mean something to us.

Getting to the point... budgeting sucks.

It does suck! I remember watching all the wedding shows before I was engaged and wondering how the heck they spent that much money, but now that I'm planning my own wedding I realize how everything starts to add up

Yea, I get a little depressed thinking about all the other things we could buy with this money... FI is finally understanding why I wanted to elope in the first place, but he insisted on the big wedding for his family.
    *sigh*

LOL this is me and FI but exactly opposite. He is the one constantly thinking... wow, we could buy xyz with this money. He's the one that originally wanted to elope. I was, at first, in agreeance, but in the end I did not want to look back, 10+ years from now and regret not having a special day celebrating "us".

Budgeting really blows. There are several people that I wouldn't be inviting if FI and I were financing our wedding completely on our own, but both sets of parents wanted to add some people (my parents originally wanted to add more extended family, but they backed off from that).

FI really didn't care if we eloped or had a larger wedding, I wanted something inbetween since I can't imagine getting married without my friends and family there. So far it's inbetween, but about 20 more guests than I'd like even though I know about 15 of those people won't be able to make it.

This! I remember thinking that all the time (why would you go over budget and spend xx more money!?) Yet when you do the research into how much things actually cost, it starts to make more sense.<div>I think having budget priorities helps - we knew we didnt want to compromise on our reception venue and food so we are spending most of our money there. We've found some great deals on DJ and photographer so that helps too. Keep your eye out for any deals and specials, every bit of saving helps :)</div>
