Party ideas

Nevermind this poll- I had a brain wave after posting and decided on a Revenge of the Nerds themed party to celebrate my PhD submission (when it happens in a couple of months).

Now to actually submit the PhD!

Re: Party ideas

  • famous doctors. that could be really fun.

  • I like the famous doctor idea best too, but I wonder if it's too hard (eg. are there THAT many doctors to choose from? I'm not sure).

  • skanky nurses is offensive. More and more men are going into nursing so not only is is sterotyping that all nurses are women, it's degrading. I would hope from one professional to another you don't choose that theme.

Not all doctors are males and not all nurses are female.

  • Love! I like either famous Dr. or PHD. I like PHD a lot because you can have pimps, hoes, drag queens. Or Pirates, hookers, and Dr.'s, etc...

I've seen my share of skanky men too, so "skanky nurses" certainly isn't sexist OR offensive. Skanky is an equal opportunity trait.

  • Ever seen Scrubs? Someone could dress ridiculous like Todd. Its borderline skanky.

Posted by bridezillatobe2009[/QUOTE]

Lol, I was not actually suggesting that I would make the theme skanky nurses (and just an aside, my BIL is a nurse so I understand the issues with stereotyping)! I was implying that most of the nurse costumes available for purchase are skanky (not the nurses themselves) and thus that if I went with the doctors and nurses theme, I'm afraid I'd end up with a party full of skanky costumes, therein my reluctance despite a few people suggesting this idea (doctors and nurses) to me.

Given that my H and I will soon be Mr and Dr, I would think it would be obvious that I do understand that not all doctors are men...

Ohhhh, I just had a better idea: Nerd party! I can reuse my brain chocolate molds from the zombie party and serve other nerdy type food (hmmm must research!), and have everyone dress as nerds. That would be fun.
  • ooh nerds!

Celery with peanut butter on them. Not sure why but that was the first thing I thought of when you mentioned nerd food.

Oh, I saw a cute mad scientist party recently. It was for little kids but still cool.

  • i DO think famous doctors would have som repeats, but it also seems like you'd get the most creative costumes.
