DO NOT use McCali Manor in Mt. Pleasant for your reception!!!

This is in response to my daughter's terrible wedding experience at McCali Manor. Everything my daughter stated in her review is absolutely true with the exception that she did not include all the unprofessional actions by Jane Altman in her review. Ms. Altman as well as the venue itself was not equipped or prepared to handle a wedding or event of 200 people. I would be hard pressed to say she could handle any size of an event actually. I would start with the constant phone calls 2 days prior to the wedding from Ms. Altman asking everything from color of napkins to who is the florist. I'm guessing she panicked because she took a 2 week vacation just prior to the wedding. In some establishments that might work, but when you are literally the only employee it might be a good idea to make sure you have all those details nailed down before you leave for 2 weeks. Jane's comment of 29 added guests at the last minute is totally false. There were 14 guests added....at no time did the number increase by 29. The unprofessionalism of Ms. Altman was extremely apparent to not only the wedding party, but unfortunately it extended to all our guests as well as other vendors that were present. Ms Altman references her "employee cost" for my daughter's wedding. Apart from the 2 bartenders, there was not one experienced worker. Friends, family and daughters of friends do not constitute employees! I was told personally by one of the "workers" that she was a friend of Ms. Altman's and "just helping out for the evening". There was a one person wait staff for a 200 person wedding. And I'm being very kind when I refer to the one young girl as a "wait staff". I would be hard pressed to think she has ever waited a table anywhere before my daughter's wedding. On top of her inexperience, she was witnessed crying several times throughout the evening by our guests when they witnessed Ms. Altman berating her in the middle of the reception room! You do not hire inexperienced people one day before a 200 person wedding to be the only wait staff! There were dirty dishes and glasses all over tables throughout the evening. My daughter's bridesmaids and I had to grab dish bins, clear dirty dishes and lug them to the kitchen. I witnessed several guests piling dirty dishes off to one end of their tables just to get them out of the way. I had to personally restock the bathroom with toilet paper 3 times throughout the evening...after I asked Ms. Altman several times to please restock the bathroom to no avail. The rest of the "workers" never left the kitchen and were witnessed just sitting there by several of our guests when they walked to the kitchen with requests for salad dressing for their table (several tables had none) or after they got tired of standing in line at the buffet waiting for multiple empty chafing dishes to be replenished. Several items of food were cold or overcooked or tasteless or simply not anything close to what was clearly written in the contract that would be part of the buffet. The "employees" were also not dressed professionally. They were in sloppy t-shirts and jeans with the exception of the bartenders. I have personally never attended a wedding where the staff was not only non-existent but not at the very least dressed in white shirts and black pants! Many of the bridal party including myself had to miss the cutting of the cake because we took advantage of the room clearing of guests and cleared and folded tables to create some type of a dance floor for our guests. To reference again Ms Altman's comment of "service was tops"......if this is what she claims to be tops, I would hate to witness a disaster in her establishment.....Oh wait, I did unfortunately. Ms Altman also mentions the extra 50 minutes that the bar was open. Again, another example of her own unprofessionalism and inability to manage her business. I was not watching the clock that evening and shutting down the bar at a specified time. I would assume that should have been her responsibility or at the very least the responsibility of her bartenders. When Ms Altman became aware that the bar was still open and serving our guests, her action at that time was to snatch full drinks out of our guests hands and toss them into a garbage can. If Ms Altman was any type of a business owner, she would realize that word of mouth advertising is a powerful marketing tool for a business such as hers. It can be extremely beneficial, but at the same time can be EXTREMELY DAMAGING! At the end of the day, my daughter's wedding was filled with dancing, laughing and fun. Fortunately she and her new husband are blessed with great family and friends that were able to overlook the terrible food, non-existent service, crowded conditions and an extremely rude owner.
