Do you think street names affect real estate prices?  In rural areas a lot of people were allowed to name their own roads when 911 service came into the county (for the city folk, you can't call 911 and ask them to come to RR4 Box 98 so all of the country roads with more than one house on them had to get names and street signs even if they are really just shared driveways). 

I'm in over my head in my annual volunteer data entry job right now and I've seen lots of interesting addresses that I'm pretty sure came about this way.  Last night I saw Krystal Gale Road and several others that people named after themselves (like Mike Gigglefartz living on Gigglefartz Rd) or grandchildren with ridiculous name spellings (like Kieylee Ayn Jones Rd) or something they just made up (Pooterville Rd <--this one is real) and it made me wonder.

    If I were looking at 2 identical houses and one was on Maple St. and the other was on Pooterville Road, I'd pick the one on Maple.

    Actually, I might pick the one on Pooterville just because it's hilarious.

    But what I'm saying is, the house is the deciding factor for me. If my dream house had an awful address, I'd deal.

    I live in an annoyingly named apartment complex (for the next two weeks!) and my address is my building # then apartment # and the complex name then "Boulevard" and a long city name so my address is something like:

    24103 Maggik Kyngdomm Boulevard
    West Blueflower, State Zip

    I am soooo glad I'm moving before I send out invitations for my wedding.

    H's family has homes on roads names after themeselves, but they are the only ones who live on that road.

    It affected us some, we looked at a house listing on Gotham St here, and DH was pretty much set on getting it based entirely on the street name. Unfortunately, it went off the market before we could even see it.

    Not so much.  It kills me though that people can't spell our street name.  Forest is a real word!  A real word with only 1 "r" thank you very much.

    Pooterville, not Poudreville? The second is a town in CO - after the Poudre river. Pooterville doesn't sound bad to me, but I think it's spelled wrong. 

    I wouldn't like living on one of the Named After My Kid streets I've seen in some subdivisions. It's just weird. I have enough trouble with my [Famous City] street.

    We just got 911 about a year ago...we weren't even allowed to submit suggestions.  The Historical Society named the county roads and the Board of Supervisors named the roads in "town."  We STILL ended up with roads that have nearly identical names, but none named after people unless that section of town was already known by that name (i.e.: Abbott) and our road was named after a police term because 3 of the 5 county officers and 2 of the 3 state troopers based here live on my "street."  My great-grandparents' driveway got its own name because my uncle has a house on their property, and there's a house across the creek, so it had to be named. 

    Edit: The Historical Society naming the streets did NOT turn out like in Gilmore Girls when Taylor wanted all the roads to go back to their original names. :)

    All of the street names in our neighborhood are former Presidents: Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, etc. 

    Prices here tend to be higher than a few streets over with names like Sir Galahad for comparable houses, so you may be on to something.

    I'm way too city for this post.

    But I'd totally buy a house on GilmoreGirls Lane or Sexytime Street if only so my kids have cool stripper names.
