Movie review: Macgruber!

We saw it on Saturday night and WOW. Equal parts stupid and funny, and the bedroom scenes? OMG, I was falling out of my chair.

Also, we tried a new (to us) theater in our neighborhood. You can go online and pick your seats, see how full it is, they have a bar and restaurant & you can take your food & beverages into the theater, And! The best part! They don't allow anyone in when the movie starts, AND there are no previews or commercials. It was the most pleasant moviegoing experience I've ever had.

  • The Kuus is somewhat offended by her precious MagGyver not being taken with the appropriate seriousness.

  • Are the tickets crazy expensive?

I miss my favorite theater in StL with small theaters and movies strategically picked to turn off teenagers.  They sell booze at the concession stand and offered you Hershey kisses on the way out the door.  And it's in the first floor of the nicest hotel in town, so the lobby isn't too shabby either.

  • YES, zsa. We're "members" so we get $1.00 off, but they're still $13.50 for a Saturday night show. Back in Iowa, it was $8.50.

  • Was it ArcLight? We saw Wolfman there when we were visiting friends. H and I were all WTH at the dude who introduced the movie.

$13.50 is about what we pay for a regular old movie theater here.

  • ArcLight, indeed. We were all WTH, too. The dude stood inside chatting about movies for about 10 minutes, then stood up front and gave us his synopsis of the movie, asked if we had any questions, then walked out. Some old lady applauded him. Him!

  • i saw "spiderman" at the arlight and it was one of the best movie experiences ever, including a midnight show of "starship troopers."

I think I know what city you live in. I live near the Hollywood location. ;-) I used to work in the business office there, actually, and it's the only place I'll see movies.

Edit: Yeah, I read the other comments, so I see it is the new ArcLight you went to. I saw SATC at a 21+ show at ArcLight Hollywood last Wednesday.

  • We have something like that at the big movie theatre in town. It's $20 per ticket, and it includes popcorn and valet parking. You pick your seat online when you buy your ticket, and they're loveseats so you can snuggle up. There are a limited number of seats, and it's up above the regular theatre seating.

It is epecially nice when you're seeing movies that you know tons of annoying teenagers are going to be at.

Ok, well they JUST opened ArcLight Pasadena. Sherman Oaks has been open for 2-3 years. Hollywood has been open for about 8 years, so if that was the new-to-you one then you may have been living under a rock.
