affordable bridesmaids dress

Anyone know of a store or reliable website where I can have my girls get their dresses? Right now my best option is davids bridal and we're looking at about 130-140 for a dress. It doesn't seem expensive, but I just feel bad making them shell out so much for a dress.

I've found a few sites: lightinthebox.com and littleborroweddress.com. Anyone know much about these sites? Would I regret ordering from them? My wedding is almost 3 months away and I really dont know what to do about these dresses!

Thanks!

  • Don't order from those sites. they are knockoff sites and you will likely regret it.  Depending on what style and color of dresses you are looking for, you might try looking at traget's bridesmaids selection. They are reasonably priced and get decent reviews.

  • Just to add to the suggestions, you could also try stores like Sears or JC Penney's - they tend to carry dresses in a really wide range of sizes, so you may be able to find a "regular" (meaning not specifically intended for bridesmaids) dress for all of the girls to buy for the wedding.

  • If they're on really tight budgets, definitely consider looking at department stores and other non-bridal options.  Of my six attendants, only one wore something that was marketed as a bridesmaid dress, and she found it at Ross.  The prices ranged from $150 down to "already in the closet."
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I would try department stores. Also, when I was in college and had to go to DH's fraternity formal every semester, I would get little cocktail dresses at Gordmans for like $30.

I would also just spend a little time online.  Check out ebay, check out the clearance section on sites like J.Crew and Ann Taylor.  You'd be surprised what you can find!  I would definitely upfront talk to girls about their budgets.  If you want to go a route where you find something on clearance, I would just have them know to have that money ready or be ready to grab it at last second.
  • My bridesmaids ordered dresses from shabbyapple.com. The dresses are really adorable and all of them are under $100. They are not labeled as "bridesmiads dresses" which automatically makes them more affordable :)
It might be worth checking out!

[QUOTE]Talk to each of your girls individually and get their budgets first. The lowest number is how much you have to spend, and then you don't have to feel bad about it. For the record, I've bought 5 BM dresses from DB and never spend more than 99 on one. What type of dresses are you looking at?

I'm looking for short chiffon dresses in a dark purple (lapis). I'm thinking of just going with DB to avoid anymore stress lol I will look through department stores though. I know one of the dresses from DB is $99 right now (all my girls will have a different style dress) and I have a DB credit card so I think I get $20 off bridesmaids dresses so it might not be so bad afterall.

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

  • So a little background.
I'm getting married this coming March, and I've got 4 girls in my wedding party, one of them being a good friend. a month after I aksed her to be in my wedding she got engaged and asked me to be in hers.

She recently just told me that her bridesmaid dresses for her wedding will be just over 300$. and I haven't even tried it on yet!
Is it wrong for me to back out from being in her wedding since that 300+ doesn't include shoes, or hair or makeup.

I was just so shocked since I had already told her I wouldn't go over 150 for my girls dresses, and then she doubled that for hers.

  • Another option would be to let them choose their own dress.  Mismatched BM dresses are very popular.  My best friend is probably doing that for her wedding and giving us guidelines such as color and length.  She's also going to approve the dresses first, obviously.  It's a way for girls who might have different body types and price ranges to find something for everyone.  Just a though!  :)
  • For my first wedding, I choose a dress out of a catalog and asked the girls to buy that as their BM dress.  It was about $75 and came in four colors and I loved the look of it.

The problem with this approach is that you can't try to dress on ahead of time, but you should still be able to pick something flattering.

This time around, we ordered dresses from Alfred Angelo for about $100 each.
