Mother of the Bride Rehearsal Dinner Attire

I have a quick question. My mom (mother of the bride) wanted to know if it was in good taste if she wore a black dress to the rehearsal dinner? I thought that it would be fine, but I'm not up to date with the correct attire and etiquette. Thanks for your replies!

It's perfectly fine. People even wear black to weddings nowadays (although when I told my mother this she was horrified.)

I think now, classic black is completely acceptable, both for weddings and the rehearsal. it's very aesthetic for photos since the gentlemen are often in suits or tux's. It's not unusual anymore.
