[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Am I on the right board? : Yes, but does anyone other than Canadians CARE about curling? Kidding, kidding. Did you see that the alternate on the Candian women's curling team is 5.5 months pregnant?

Mery, I think we're talking about the same lady. I didn't realize she was an alternate. So is it safe for her to play? I'd be terrified of falling down.

The baby is pretty well protected. And I'm sure they're so used to walking on the ice that it's not a big deal.

I just said to DH "is it a sport if you can wear dangly earrings while playing it?"

Yeah, I saw you posted that before me. After I posted. She's an alternate. She found out about her pregnancy a few weeks before they chose her for the team. Everyone thinks she'll be fine. She'll only play if someone gets injured, which doesn't seem likely in curling. But if they win, she gets a medal!

The article I read said that there have been 2 other pregnant Olympians. One was a figure skater in her first trimester in 1920 and one was an equestrian in 2008, which I think would be more dangerous than curling. But I'm not sure how often curlers fall.

  • Haha sucrets. Well, if you can wear dangly earrings then the baby should be fine. I just think of Olympic athletes as hard playing machines, so babies and dangly earrings are making that image very cute and silly in my head.

Mag, that first FB group you posted is hilarious. I was dying reading the applicant who wanted to be a "gornocologist so I can learn about the female body and how it works and thats pretty much everything about me." I figure people who can't even spell their chosen field's name correctly don't have a chance in hell.

That would be cute if they made a little wee gold medal for the baby if the team wins. That's crazy though about the equestrian! That's got to be unhealthy, or maybe I've seen too many old movies where women pretty much were expected to stay in bed all day because of their "condition."

As far as I know, you're right. It's better to fall on your side than your back, but I don't remember why.

  • Hmm. I guess my high school had pretty good guidence counselors. Ones who set deadlines for our applications well before they ACTUALLY had to be mailed in, looked over everything, and made us type all of our applications as well. That was a PITA on a typewritter.

It was written as a "play" and in pencil. It got a check plus in whatever class it was submitted to, and had lines such as this ""Baby, I don't care if you are a lawyer or a drug dealer, just be the best drug dealer you can be."
