I think it's more important to have the 'its right' feeling than the OMG MUST HAVE! feeling because at some point, you do have to come back to reality and figure out what you can afford and how realistic it is.

I DID have that feeling about FIVE event center, but we didn't end up having it there because of date issues.  I didn't initially about the one we choose (Graves 601) but when we walked into our reception, it definitely felt like the right choice for us!

it can be hard to picture what your wedding will look like when you're touring a place, but once you start planning your decor, it will be much more real.

I definitely had that feeling. While just driving up to my venue and seeing the gorgeous flowers and waterfalls I knew I had to have it.

I did! Stupidly I've only actually toured one but we just love it so much! We haven't booked it yet because of money and because it'll probably be spring 2013 (though we should probably book soon...). But there were just so many things we loved about it! It's the Profile Event Center by the way :-)

</div><div>Ha ha, this is the EXACT same thing I did.I toured the PEC last December, before we were engaged, because I had seen it online and was pretty sure I wanted to have the reception there, so I toured it while I was home for the holidays. And boy am I glad I did, because I was able to call and book the day after we got engaged, heh. :)</div>

I had that moment, & FI sort of did, but didn't want to admit it!

I knew from the second I walked in, I wanted it.  It was in our budget, it was beautiful & went well with our style.  It was the 2nd or 3rd place we had looked at, so FI wanted to check out a few more, just to be sure.

I knew deep down, we would end up with that venue, but looked elsewhere to appease him.  Needless to say, I compared EVERYTHING to the venue I loved, so nothing compared.

We ended up with my dream venue!  = )

I didn't right away. When I went to the venue I loved everything about it and tried to make a pro cons list. There was maybe one con that could be changed, so I went with it. Then the next time I went in, that is where I had my moment that this was the place! :)

I definitely did, but I think as with all wedding stuff the emotional energy is different for different people.  For instance after watching way too many episodes of "Say Yes to the Dress" I kept waiting for this uber emotional moment to happen and it never did.  That being said when I found the right dress I knew it was the one, I just didn't have the emotional reaction I thought I would.

Have you settled on a place that you think you want or do you feel like you still need to look at more places?

I did not at all. We used the ballroom at the Saint Paul Hotel. My DH had serious doubts about the space shortly before the wedding and I started to worry about the choice myself. But when we say all the decor, flowers, and lighting together, it was perfect. Chose a space that has the features you want but you can change a lot about a space.

I had that moment, but mostly because the location itself means a lot to me.  I told FI from the get go, we ARE having the reception here!

I did....but it was the second time we came back. We really like the PEC the first time we went but were still unsure so we went and looked at two other venues and when we were finishing up with the second one we called Heather and asked if we could swing by. When we walked in there after seeing too other "meh" venues we knew instantly that that was the right place.

We did! (or at least I did).  We looked at 2 other places first (a community center and a hotel) then checked out the PEC and we knew we wanted it there!  LOVE the PEC! :0)

No. But I'm really happy with my choice.  I did feel more comfortable in the venue I chose than some of the others I toured, but it wasn't like I walked in and was like "this is it!"

I toured two locations, the Science Museum and Windows on Minnesota. I wasn't a big fan of the science museum but when I walked in to Windows my breath was taken away and I KNEW that was where I wanted it. The carpet even matched my colors lol. I was a little over our budget but we made it work :)

Yes, and believe it or not, for my FI and I, it is the VFW in Uptown. That has been one of our favorite weekend hot spots since we've been together, and we used to joke about how much fun it would be to have a wedding reception there, where our guests could go back and forth frrom the hall to the bar and sing karaoke. We've checked out a couple of other spots, but the VFW is perfect for us. Unbelievably cheap and allows pretty much anything for catering. The bar minimum is also ridiculously low. FI and I are very low fuss people. We do not care so much about decorations and fancy dinners. We just want to throw a great party for our friends and family.

Have you checked out the Berwood Hill Inn in Lanesboro (http://www.berwood.com/weddings.html), not sure on cost but I could see it totally fitting the victorian/vintage vibe.

I totally did! I knew I wanted to get married in a barn and when I found The Enchanted Barn, I was sold. The rental cost is a bit more than I wanted to spend, but who cares! I am only doing this once, so I think do what you truly want :)
