  I went and looked at both the Garrison and Highland Country Club. Ultimatley we decided on a different venue, but they were both lovely...though I was more partial to the Highland Country Club myself

  We looked at Garrison and Highlands.
  
  Garrison was over our budget and I was concerned about the minimum / maximum at Highlands. (They told me a min of 125 but a max of 130) Not a lot of leeway. In the initial stages of planning we figured on anywhere from 125 to 150 guests.
  
  We ended up having our reception at Putnam National Golf Club. One of Jean Jaques properties. Great decision! We had a beautiful wedding with amazing food. Golf views, but it doesn't have a river view.
  
  Bird and Bottle - my brother in law used to work there and said it was nice but my DH (then FI) said no way. So I didn't even look.

  I had my reception at the Garrison and my RD at the Bird & Bottle.  They are very different venues, so much of a choice between the two is based on personal taste, but I will say I was very happy with both venues.

  Venue: The Garrison (Michael Elbe)

  We could not have been happier with the Garrison.  We worked with Michael, who was always patient and responsive.  Day of, he and our DOC (reviewed below) had everything set up perfectly.  I feel like every bride says this, so take it for what it's worth, but guests came up to me all night telling me the food was the best they've ever had at a wedding.  Overall, I was very pleased with my experience with the Garrison and can't really point to any negatives.  We visited a few venues and researched pretty much every NNJ and Hudson Valley venue and the Garrison was the best value for the price, considering the beauty of the site and the service we received. 
  
  

  Rehearsal Dinner: Bird & Bottle Inn 

  We had a large rehearsal dinner (70 people, mostly MH's family who traveled quite a distance), so we needed something more than the back room at a restaurant.  Also, since the Garrison had a wedding that day, we needed rehearsal space.  The Bird & Bottle has a tent in the back, which they walled off to fit our party.  We had a 4 hour cocktail reception and they allowed us to customize our menu but also provided guidance when we asked.  The owner, Elaine, was great to work with and even let us bring in a karaoke setup at the last minute.  Everyone had a great time and I thought the food was really good.  Also, karaoke rehearsal dinner is a much better idea that one would think, initially...
