How early did everyone do their registries?

We did it as soon as our families started bugging us for them, which was just before last Thanksgiving. If they hadn't kept asking, we would have waited until late spring/early summer.

People were asking for ours before our engagement party, so we ended up doing them more than a year and a half out. But, we updated and changed stuff when we got closer to the wedding.

Everywhere I read says to start about 9 months before the wedding date and I mentioned it the other day and my mother was like no it's way to early. But I figured we can start on basic things that we know will not stop selling by then an add things later on.

If you're picking things from companies that don't change their lines very often, and what you choose isn't seasonal, you'll probably be fine.

Lennox, Kitchen Aid, Gorham, Cuisinart, those kinds of companies aren't going to overhaul their lines every season like other companies would.

Our Lennox china and stemware haven't changed, the Nautica towels FI wanted were discontinued soon after Christmas.

If you're willing to stay on top of it, re-evalute when showers and things come around, you'll probably be fine.

We did ours about 5 months in advance...it's worked out great for us so far. People didn't start buying us gifts until August anyways.

this question is so timely! I am just starting to think about registries- we are about 8 months out! but we haven't had any parties yet, so I haven't had any reason to register any earlier...however, I think with the holidays around the corner, we'll start moving in that direction!

We had a short engagement so we registered about 3.5 months out. We were incredibly shocked at how much was discontinued before the wedding. Not a huge deal though, we were constantly adding and subtracting items from the registry.

I didn't realize that Engagement Parties were gift parties...we have friends getting married 10/8/11 and they are having an engagement party at the end of next month so they registered this past weekend. She is registered for a lot of stuff that will be consistant- Fiesta, Calphalon, etc.

We registered over a month ago, and our wedding isn't until June 2011. We registered early so that our families could buy us stuff off of the registry for Christmas. My mom loved the idea

We registered a year out, because of our engagement party and because some family members wanted to send us engagement gifts (even before the party.) I've just kept on top of it and checked on it once a month or so, to sub things for discontinued stuff (Macy's changes over their stock like 7 times a year) and such. It worked out pretty well!

We just finished up our two registeries a few weeks ago. Several family members had asked because of the upcoming holidays and I knew I did not want to be in the stores with holiday shoppers and October is just wild for me with work trips!

I am figuring I will have to keep on top of things once we get closer to showers/the wedding for things being discontinued.
