Champagne Toast without a bartender...

I am having my ceremony and reception in the same room so my guests will be seated at the tables that they will be seated at/eating at during the cermony and reception. My question is should I have the champagne bottles on the tables or in one of the tubs that i will have the beer bottles in ? I will not have a bartender so Im not sure if it would be tacky if the guest poored their own champagne while they are getting drinks. I thought about putting the bottles on the tables but a friend suggested that some guests may drink during the ceremoy? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated : )

Re: Champagne Toast without a bartender...

  • Do you have your heart set on a champagne toast? Otherwise you could just let people toast with whatever they're drinking - beer, Coke, whatever. That would also help you save money because you wouldn't have to buy all that champagne, especially since a lot of people just take a sip for the toast and throw the rest away.

  • I agree with PP.  We will be eliminating the champagne toast to save money and to avoid wasting so much champagne.

If you're really set on the champagne, I would leave it in the tubs chilling until after the ceremony and then have someone place a bottle on each table.

  • Well, we have a bartender but we are totally being "ghetto" with this idea.. The prices at the reception site are INSANE!! To say the least, so my hubby and I decided that we are going to go to BevMo and buy about 16 bottles of Patron tequila. I am going to wrap them in red tissue paper, then with celophane (sp?) tie really cute ribbons around it put them in a box for the decorator to bring in. At our tables we are going to have small shot glasses with our names on them, have a piece of tulle in them and fill the tulle with m&ms, one at each place setting. We will have the decorator put each bottle in the middle almost like a centerpiece then when it is time to toast we will have everyone toast with a shot of Patron instead of anything else. Our families won't drink anything else actually lol. I know that sounds horrible! :( But itll be fun! Yours will work out just fine :) It is your day! Just keep that in mind!

Are you sure your venue will allow this?
  • Wait... Your guests will be sitting at the tables during the ceremony?? How does that work out? I've never heard of that. I'm actually interested b/c I'm having my ceremony and reception at the same place.
  • We will be chilling it & then setting it on tables I believe. I dont want it & neither does FI, but FMIL does so its her deal, we dont want anything to do with it.

Expatpumpkin- Our venue would allow it. We're actually considering something similar.

  • What if you pre-poured the champagne, and either had guests take one as they entered, or have an usher distribute it before the toast? If guests took it as they entered the room, you could have a sign that says "Please take a glass of champagne for a post-ceremony toast" or something like that. If they take a few sips during the ceremony, it's not the end of the world anyway.

Also here is a pic of what I want my champagne to look like, it's so pretty with the raspberries in it!
