XP - address ehelp with suffixes

Sorry for the cross post but we are addressing invites now and trying to keep the momentum going and I know this an active board,

We are addressing couples as Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Doe. Where would the Jr. go for John??

Re: XP - address ehelp with suffixes

  • You shouldn't separate a man's first name from his last....
so I would do Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Doe Jr.
  • The way you're addressing them isn't really correct, so there's not an easy way to put Jr. in that name. You could do either Mr. and Mrs. John Doe, Jr. Or Jane and John Doe, Jr.
  • I guess the guidance on The Knot is wrong because that is what I am following. I feel strongly about listing the woman's first name, so this guidance from The Knot seemed to work, until we got to the men with suffixes.

  • Well, to be honest, The Knot does't always give great advice.

Etiquette wise, the only way to include a woman's first name is to use no titles (Jane and John Doe). Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Doe would be the next best thing.

Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Doe isn't really correct.
  • The problem with titles and first names is that it makes the person listed first seem like that is their last name: Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Doe -- to me reads as a man whose last name is John. To include both first names, you should do Mrs. Jane Doe and Mr. John Doe, Jr. The "and" indicates marriage and lets you use both people's names.

If you feel strongly about listing first names, skip titles altogether and just do Jane and John Doe, Jr.
