Want your thoughts on the guest book idea

I love traditional guestbooks, but after our wedding, I think it would just end up on a shelf with our photo albums and never be looked at again. FI doesn't like the idea of our picture surrounded by a matte that people can sign. So, I've been looking for some other alternatives. What do you think about doing something like this:

There are lines in the middle for people to sign their names or leave a short message. I would probably move up the name part and have the lines at the bottom, get rid of the "sweet love" part, and change the colors to more our style.
Cute? Or too boring and restrictive?

I really like that:) Have you looked at the thumbprint ones? (like a tree?)

FI and I are trying to do something a little different too- I'm ordering us two Steelers jerseys with our last name across the back and having everyone sign the numbers. We'll frame them and put them in our 'man cave' when we have one. :)

I like it. I'm not a big fan of the signing a mat thing either. This I think is neater or cleaner look to me. We still can't decide on a guest book either.

I really like that! My suggestion would be to not put lines. Let people sign anywhere in the white spaces. Lines will restrict how many people can sign.

    I like it!  It's a cute idea

Paprika - ah haha that is so you guys and will be perfect for a man cave.  I don't think our FIs will like the other's man caves.

Mana- totally agree. FI's will be all steelers... and yours will be all ravens. And eagles, if you can get it snuck in there. Just tell him it's a bird. :)

Thanks! I like that it'll be nice enough to hang in our living or dining room and isn't a huge picture of the two of us.

Paprika - I LOVE your idea! Too cute! If we had any man's room being made in the near future, I would seriously consider stealing that idea.

Paprika - eh, I get a say in the rest of the house... so it's ok if that's a raven's room.  I do have Phillies stuff and UNC that I know he'll be ok with.  I had to explain to him an accent wall again... I told him to just trust us.

Bean - what colors will you make it?

And what exactly would you do with that? Are you going to hang it on the wall like a work of art? I doubt it.

Frankly I think guest anythings are stupid. But of all of them I think a book with engagement photos with room for people to sign in the only idea that isn't going to make it into the trash someday. Because it's worth saving for the photos.

Yes, Angel. I plan on hanging it on the wall. Better than a book sitting on a shelf.

angel, we have a photo signature mat hanging in the living room and it's a great conversation piece, especially because it has a small 5x7 wedding photo in it.  In my opinion, itmakes for nice wall art without screaming "WASN'T OUR WEDDING O AWESOME AND AREN'T WE SO SEXY!" I think this is a nice alternative if you don't like the idea of doing a photo mat.

My photographer is making an album with our engagement photos as a guest book, that way it is two in one!!

So there will be no picture? It will be a matted and framed paper with people's signatures on it? I'm not sure I understand how this is artistic in any way. If you do a picture with people signing the matte it would be worth hanging. From a distance the signatures will look like a funky texture and then close up people can see the writing. But without a picture it's just....well, it's nothing. It can't be viewed from a distance at all because there is nothing there.

Sorry if I offended you, but this is just a dumb idea. It's a waste of money, materials, and your guests time because I can't imagine having something like this hung up in your house.

Bean- I like it. I think you can hang it anywhere- hallways, living room, dining room....
I think its cute and will be more useful than a book!

I'm mostly anti-guestbook anything.  We didn't have one at our wedding.  I just didn't see the point.  And you know what, no one even noticed.  Sure people hang this stuff on their walls right after their wedding.  But what about 5+ years later?  Personally, hanging a bunch of signatures on my wall (picture or no picture) just doesn't make sense.  But I'm anti-book as well.  I'd never take a book out just to look at signatures.

I don't really understand the point of a guestbook.  But to each his own.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone! I'm pretty sure that I'm going to end up getting this because it's a) inexpensive and b) I will defintely hang it up on the wall (even for just a few years until the love of my wedding wears off).

Angel - You didn't offend at all. I asked for opinions and you gave yours - it's what I wanted. I think it just comes down to what we would each be comfortable hanging in our home. Thanks for being honest!
